I strongly disagree with the way in which Rod Rosenstein is handling his possible firing.
He should never have broadcast that he’s accepting of his firing. It normalizes something that is incredibly abnormal.

1. Trump is a criminal and we will protest any DOJ changes. But be careful about how you frame this.
One GOP propaganda goal is to put the words "Rosenstein" and "firing" into as many Democratic minds as possible.
Remember "Don't think of an Elephant" -- that makes you think of an elephant, of course. Better headline: "I strongly disagree with the corrupt president's wanna-be autocratic threats to Rosenstein." |

2. But it's no fun for Trump to fire someone who's at peace with it.

3. He's at peace because he's done his job well. And there's no same in letting Trump know.
Why was the Comey firing so nasty and personal? Because of Comey's arrogance and insecurity. Because Comey couldn't believe someone so loathesome, ethically-challenged, and criminal could dare dismiss him.
Rosenstein takes all the sting and the pleasure Trump gets out of firing people by telegraphing that he's at peace. Which maybe means that he buys a little bit more time. Regardless, I think all the necessary plans have been made and are ready to go if/when Rosenstein and/or Mueller are fired. |

4. I think he's daring Trump to do it.
Mueller is pretty much begging Trump to fire him at this point so he can move forward. They all know that will be the breaking point for everyone and Trump must know this too deep down or else he would have done it already.
They are all playing chicken with each other to see who breaks first and luckily Mueller/Rosenstein hold all the cards. |

5. I took that another way. It sounds to me that Rosenstein
is getting across the message that his being fired won't hurt him -- it will only hurt Trump.
