Admit it, James Comey: You've been lying all alongBY LANNY J. DAVIS, OPINION CONTRIBUTOR — 04/15/18 03:00 PM EDT 856 THE VIEWS EXPRESSED BY CONTRIBUTORS ARE THEIR OWN AND NOT THE VIEW OF THE HILL
On Saturday night, the great Wolf Blitzer interviewed one of his panelists about James Comey’s justification for violating over a half-century of Justice Department policies in Republican and Democratic administrations when he sent his October 28 letter to Congress in 2016, which cost Hillary Clinton the presidency. Comey has repeatedly claimed that he was “obligated” to write his speculative letter because of a promise he had made to Congress to do so if “anything new” came up after his July 5, 2016, press conference announcing a new prosecutable case could be brought against Clinton. However, I established beyond any doubt in my book published in February 2018, “The Unmaking of the Presidency 2016,” that Comey’s claim was — and remains — false. In fact, Comey only promised Congress in September 2016 that if anything new came up on the emails issue that might cause the FBI to reconsider its non-prosecution decision, he would “take a look” — not that he would make a public disclosure to Congress before doing so. http://thehill.com/opinion/campaign/383251-admit-it-james-comey-youve-been-lying-all-along Look, I pretty much believe Comey's depiction of Trump, only because he has contemporaneous memos and in-time communications with his colleagues. But in spite of the fact that he has the dope on the orange fool, we all know that he did a serious hit job on Hillary Clinton, which very likely cost her the Electoral College. It's good to see that Lanny Davis isn't letting him off the hook for that mess.

to keep congress under Republican control? How about 2020?
This ISN'T over. We are engaged in an enormous battle for power and the future of our nation. WHO was Comey conspiring to subvert our presidential election with? Or did he just wake up and think, "Hmmm. I think I'll betray my country today, and maybe tomorrow, the next 9 months even, and see if I can get away with it."? |

44. Trump has already tried and convicted Comey.
@realDonaldTrump
The big questions in Comey’s badly reviewed book aren’t answered like, how come he gave up Classified Information (jail), why did he lie to Congress (jail), why did the DNC refuse to give Server to the FBI (why didn’t they TAKE it), why the phony memos, McCabe’s $700,000 & more? Just like he did with HRClinton; "Lock Her Up" etc. Then he pardons Libby, who was convicted of leaking the identity of an FBI agent and lying under oath. He screams that "Attorney Client Privilege is dead..." Meanwhile, Comey has never jumped to conclusions and has only said "Here's what happened. I took notes." The FBI is only supposed to act when it benefits DJT, apparently. |

him. Dems here seem to want to help them along. No one here is happy the way things turned out with Hillary. If the Dotard and his minions had their way, he'd put her on trial and 'lock her up'. Stop assisting them in keeping the shit going, or the Dems will lose again because we're always fighting the last fight instead of looking forward and making sure we're prepared for the next fight. If a snake bites a friend of mine I will not like the snake. Then if that same snake bites a despicable enemy of mine, I will look differently at the snake. It will not change the fact that the snake is a snake, but I will have a different viewpoint when thinking of it. In fact, I might even dislike the snake less after it bites my enemy. I will not, however, turn my back on the snake.
I believe that we can use Comey in order to help rid us of a enemy of our United States of America. If that can be done, then why not use that tool? |

In my opinion, that's one of the tenets of liberalism: People can make mistakes, but people also deserve to change their mind, and deserve a chance at redemption. Conservatives like to paint things in one color because it's easier for them to wrap their head around "THIS PERSON IS GOOD, AND THIS PERSON IS BAD, AND THAT WILL NEVER CHANGE."
Your anger at Comey is completely valid. But Comey's recollection as it relates to the President is also valid, and I certainly want to hear it. I believe we are allowed line-item criticism. It's okay if you don't feel that way. |

a sanctimonious ass who cost Hillary the White House.
Comey IS ALSO our best witness for obstruction, and his version of events is well corroborated, therefore very likely to be true and to hold up in court or in hearings. "The enemy of my enemy" thing is facile and dangerous. I keep pointing this out, because I am an Irish person. In WWII, some Irish people made an unforgivable mistake when they applied that philosophy. Their enemy was Britain. Some Irish acted in support of Nazis because the Nazis were the "enemy of the enemy." We don't need to make the same kind of mistake. |

It is imperative that we compartmentalize our disdain for the man as a major contributor to our candidate's loss from our support of him in his capacity as a WITNESS of crimes perpetrated by Trump.
I trust his regurgitation of events vis-a-vis meetings with Trump. I trust his contemporaneous notes. I will never forgive Comey or forget his diabolical acts immediately prior to election day. There is no connection in my mind to what happened then and what is happening now. He is a witness. His testimony could help bring down Donald J Trump. That's the prize. Comey pulls a string and Donald starts singing his songs. Kind of think it's the intimidations of written words and vocabulary by Comey.
Trump's weakness is him not wanting articulated descriptions and opinions that have and intice forethought. Wanting to be surrounded by people that seldom offer intellectual analysis has its drawbacks. It must drive Trump wild seeing someone writing many notes about just general conversations. 32. Lanny should apologize to us for his effete presentation of the left of center point of view.
He reminds me of the late Alan Colmes.

40. yes, he is a lying piece of shit
his argument that he thought Hillary would win is utterly ridiculous - WHY WOULD THAT EVEN BE A FACTOR? He and some rabid rightwing assholes in the FBI did a hit job on Hillary and now they don't have the GUTS to admit it

54. Youre Half Right
The NY Office of the FBI were filled with right-wing anti-Hilliary zealots who were in cahoots with Rudy Gulliani. They cornered Comey by with-holding the Weiners’ PC until 11 days before the election. Remember Rudy bragging about an October surprise?
Everyone here were toasting Comey when he stood up to the Bush Torture crowd. He wouldn’t sign the Memos authorizing torture when Ashcroft was under sedation in the hospital and Cheney tried to get the drugged AG to sign the memo. |

46. I saw the author was "Lanny Davis" and struggled to read further.
Lanny Davis is a liar and a snake himself, so it's possible that he's right (in the sense that it takes one to know one).

48. Comey's error will forever be taught to future FBI agents and directors.
He is the posture child for why you should never comment on an ongoing investigation or even confirm its existence.

62. Apparently Obama "forgave" him. Obama must not be judging Comey on this one incident
but rather a long history of un besmirched public service.

51. I guess I cannot judge Comey one way or another
Because frankly I cannot crawl into the man's brain.....but one thing I do know.....he is pushing the asshat in the white house closer to the edge of the cliff.....and I am just fine with that!

66. *The great Wolf Blitzer*??? Is Davis joking or genuflecting?
If it’s not a snarky lead-in, then whatever follows should be taken with several grains of salt.
Because nowhere in this universe is Leslie “Wolf” Blitzer “great.” |
