Nixon signed the last of the bills that created giant agencies to enforce regulations to take the edges off of capitalism. EPA, clean air/ water acts. Can't think of anything since. The ACA was the most progressive major piece of legislation signed into law simce that since that.

Nixon was president almost 50 years ago.
My point is that it is an historical irony that the last of the New Deal style agency creating legislation was signed into law by Nixon fifty years ago. Tricky Dick. 50 years ago. Yes.

(11,949 posts)The EPA was a huge deal. A great increase in the power of the Federal Government to improve the lives of Americans.
Clinton and Carter accomplished nothing close. One could argue that the ACA rivals the EPA, but I would disagree.
Nixon was a criminal and a Dick. But the fact that. Republican President would support the EPA shows how far they have fallen.
