I guessed as soon as the Allison Mack arrest was news that it was only a matter of time until conservatives started tinfoil hat theories to try to claim it was part of Pizzagate or some such shit.
Leave it to longtime Trump pal and Roseanne favorite Jerome Corsi to craft a bunch of baseless nonsense from the horseshit at 4chan.

I never understand why Democrats don't sue the shit out of these guys - public figures or not, the stuff said about them by Corsi crosses the line into libel and then some.
Hopefully the parents of this kid (or kids) will see what the Sandy Hook families are doing to Alex Jones in court for his smears and likewise take Corsi to court.
But, regardless, Corsi is now circulating photos of a random child meeting the president and working them into his sick sexual conspiracy fanfics. I's like to think there's a good chance the law is being broken in his doing so.
If you have a Twitter account, please report this garbage for targeted harassment of a minor.
Maybe we can finally get this defamation king banned from Twitter.

(14,093 posts)Corsi has been retweeted and promoted endlessly by Trump and has met with him personally to talk strategy.
This is the message of the Republican Party in 2018.
We can ignore it and let them spread it unabated, or we can call them out, denounce them and hold the scumbag liars accountable.

(49,091 posts)tap into it regularly -- often with very brief mentions that seem to act like a code to let RWNJs know what they're talking about and tacitly agreeing with -- and people need to be aware that it exists.
At the very least DUers need to be aware of it so they can respond if they see it on any social media where they're active, and so they can discredit it.
A lot of DUers were apparently unaware of the Pizzagate conspiracy before it very nearly became a tragedy in December 2016. Possiblly, if mainstream media as well as more of the rational people (like DUers) on social media had commented on that nonsense earlier, it wouldn't have become so widespread on the right.

I think most Democrats tend to underestimate just how crazy RWNJs are. Their craziness needs to be exposed.

(35,454 posts)After the way the Obamas were treated? We know and we don't need to repeat it, give it an airing. And I don't think Duers underestimate muc, if anything, about Comrade Trump just as they didn't about the Bush administration.

(49,091 posts)a poll done by the Economist and YouGov at the end of 2016, and reported by New York mag
http://nymag.com/daily/intelligencer/2016/12/a-surprising-number-of-democrats-think-pizzagate-is-true.html
https://today.yougov.com/topics/politics/articles-reports/2016/12/27/belief-conspiracies-largely-depends-political-iden
and posted about here at DU then, a surprising number of Democrats seem to find the conspiracy theories credible.
Too many people get too much of their news from whatever their relatives and friends post on social media.
I wouldn't want to see a lot of threads here about these conspiracy theories. But I think we're making a mistake if we try to ignore them completely. It's better to know enough about them, including who's spreading them, to be able to discredit them.
Me.
(35,454 posts)Find it credible how does it help to spread it? You, the OP and I will not arrive at agreement on this.

(49,064 posts)What if each month, they all sued the worst offender at that time, and supported each other's suits and subsidized each other as needed? (GoFundMe, etc.)
Once a month drive an evil insidious idiot into the ground. Do that a few times and they would dry up. Would have to do it every few years to keep the word circulating, but it would work.
Generally people don't sue for defamation for nonsense like this because it is time and money intensive and because it gives the miscreant publicity. But pounding a half dozen worst offenders would reduce it down to mostly amateurs and anonymous cranks.

(49,091 posts)during his 2010 vacation on Martha's Vineyard, when the Obamas had dinner at her mother's restaurant:
https://vineyardgazette.com/news/2010/08/30/obamas-end-their-summer-vacation
Sarah Nixon said yesterday that the restaurant was given 20 minutes notice of the presidential visit, but the wait and kitchen staff rose to the challenge to serve up a memorable meal. They were rewarded at the end of the night, when the President himself requested group photos. He was kind enough to take a picture with the people that make us look good every single day, said Mrs. Nixon.
She declined to say what the President and his wife had eaten for dinner that night. I served them a glorious Menemsha sunset, Mrs. Nixon said, who reported that the Obamas had gone outside to take in the view and wander the property.
Inside, the President asked Mrs. Nixons 12-year-old daughter for advice on the menu. Maggie, what do you like? he had asked. She responded: I like horseback riding, which drew laughter from both families.
He couldnt have been more gracious, Mrs. Nixon said of Mr. Obama.

(49,091 posts)not just with the defamation of President Obama. The child he's shown with, who was 12 in 2010, is the daughter of Bob Nixon and Sarah Guinan Nixon, two filmmakers and restaurant owners. Sarah's apparently had to make her Instagram and Twitter accounts private since this nonsense got started. Bob's mother was Agnes Nixon, an award-winning writer and producer:

I've seen the craziest tweets about this latest conspiracy theory, even some suggesting that Trump is somehow signaling in weird code to Qanon (and vice versa) with Qanon mentioning Maggie Nix and Trump mentioning Maggie Haberman. Yeah. Really.
These people are completely crazy, and dragging as many innocent people into the Pizzagate nonsense as possible.

(49,091 posts)I noticed was being dragged into this simply because she'd taken another photo of Maggie that was on Maggie's mother's Instagram page. The conspiracy nuts googled the friend, who's a fashion designer and photographer and artist, and because some of her photos showed kids bathing and swimming who weren't fully dressed, those nuts started tweeting about reporting her to ICE for child exploitation. They'd also found the name of another friend who'd once been photographed with Hillary Clinton, which to the nuts is proof that this is someone else in the Pizzagate conspiracy. The craziness is stunning.
It's important to find out who's behind the Qanon posts. This is particularly malicious defamation, obviously done for political purposes, and with the involvement of Corsi and Alex Jones, it's possible Trump or GOP allies are in some way behind it. Just like the Pizzagate nonsense this is spinning off from, this is potentially tragic, with innocent people possibly being physically harmed by the crazies this conspiracy-mongering has been deliberately inciting.

Trump is a walking lawsuit. Push him. Watch Avenatti and Tim O'Brien- they know that Trump is terrified of discovery.
Don't be nice. If he insulted you or lied about you, sue him. Harass him. You're doing god's work.

Of course the rotten bastards spreading this ludicrous lie wouldn't notice that, nor would any of their brain-dead followers.
They're just brimming over with hate and racism for the Obamas, so little things like facts, logic, and the laws of Physics mean absolutely nothing to them.
Vicious, evil pricks!

(1,530 posts)I would think that she would be a public figure with Trumps decades long publicity tour, and then her being on the campaign trail with him.
She won two defamation lawsuits, one against the Daily Mail, and one against a "blogger" Webster Tarpley who both said she was a high end escort as well as being a model before the Donald.
https://www.politico.com/blogs/on-media/2017/02/melania-trump-settles-libel-suit-against-maryland-blogger-234730
So her lawyers sued and won on these published rumors which are a lot more benign than the total over the top trash and filth still being put out about Obama, Clinton ant their families on a daily basis.
I clicked on the tweet referenced in the OP, and though I had dropped through the rat hole into some bizzaro parallel universe of morons who believe all of this NewsMax shit.
If these people are not stopped, then these lies fester and are built on by larger and larger numbers of crazies. John Kerry should have sued this jerk into bankruptcy 14 years ago over the swiftboat book. He did not and Corsi is still spewing these knowingly deliberate lies and is a darling of the alt-right.
