I am so damned sick of his simplistic, uninformed (he had to ask how the vote worked) bullshit and raving. Hes not a plain spoken man, hes a bullshit artist who knows one thing, how to encourage people to hate one another and to use it for his benefit.

(115,692 posts)Spanky isnt getting along well with May or Merkel, so Macron likely sees the possibility of increasing Frances influence by making nice with Trump. But Im sure hes smart enough to realize that Spanky cant be trusted as far as he can throw a grand piano.

(23,953 posts)i'm pretty sure FDR wouldn't have gone to Germany in 1941, but we're hardly in that position (yet). Macron's well within the bounds of traditional statecraft here, imho. he's going to work Trump like a borrowed plowhorse and cut all kinds of nifty advantage-France deals if he can, and i can't say i blame him. Americans elected a shiftless tyrannical moron so we should expect all the benefits that such stable genius leadership can provide, especially if it makes Russia look more attractive by comparison.

(54,378 posts)He ran on a "none-of-the-above" platform in France and blew the competition away. He is out to feel the pulse here, and tell Merkel and the rest of the Western EU what he see as being the real situation in the USA. What the EU can expect in the way of economic and military cooperation, and where they need to be prepared to go it alone (which, I can tell you, they increasingly are).
Macon knows what a "con fini" Trump is. He's looking to see if there are any signs of life elsewhere in our government.

Or appointed a proponent of appeasement as Ambassador to Great Britain who later went on to have close ties to McCarthy?

(115,692 posts)Hes using him. Hes playing him like a Stradivarius in order to get some advantage for France. He will not be able to persuade Trump to be a better person; that would be like trying to clean the Augean stables.

What an embarrassment. Can you imagine what President Macron and his wife say about him when they're out of earshot? It's probably all they can do to keep from bursting out laughing in his face.
