It doesn't take much to split our focus or our attention. One photo and Franken is eliminated. Blog posts and Joy Reid is being eliminated. One email server and Hillary is eliminated.
Meanwhile, Republicans do much worse things and nothing happens to them. NOTHING.
Why? Because we cannot let things go and move forward.

(16,370 posts)No offense to Joy, but a US Senate seat is a helluva lot bigger deal than a cable news show. Instead we still have people here who believe Franken is guilty but believe Reid unconditionally. Weird times we live in.

(10,611 posts)It's important enough to the RW and their enablers to target her, and a large part of why the RW gets away with what it has has been lack of the public's awareness of their misdeeds.
One less voice to counter the Trump spin is a win for Trump and his enablers. Period.

(35,071 posts)It's good to vote and everything, but by far, the thing I see, participation in the political process needs to be an everyday thing, but people are content with sitting in the back seat, letting someone else do their fighting for them but dismissing someone if they are not up to snuff. It's a dangerous process.
Case in point that I've personally come across: I help run the Right Wing Infopedia, a free resource on right wing groups, individuals, concepts, and more (Sorry for the self-advertising but this has a point). I see fellow liberals saying "We need to understand Trump supporters", "If you don't know yourself and know your adversary...", etc. And I said "Well then become an editor, that is literally the best possible way to understand Trump voters, I can set you up right now." I was pretty much told "No thanks."
It's easier to take a dump on somebody on our own side than actually challenge and oppose the increasingly psychotic right wing.
Trump should have been a wake up call.
The Adam Lanza and Dylann Roof Wannabes of the Alt-Right should have been a wake up call.
The Republicans almost electing a fascist theocratic sex offender to the Senate out of Alabama should have been a wake up call.
The right wing is at war against liberals, it's not that liberals are different, they want to erase liberalism and anything else they deem "left" or even "other" from the public discourse. I think it's time to start saying that if you don't want to lead, or follow, or get out of the way, but you do want to take a dump on anyone willing to fight for anyone the right has deemed the "enemy", then you are an enabler. Period.

(It ain't the liberals defeating themselves. The power of money lets conservatives think they're pwning us.)

(9,527 posts)Franken was accused by multiple women. It's hard to take your claim seriously when you blatantly misstatements basic facts.

(35,438 posts)His accusers' claims were never vetted in an open hearing. No other corroborating evidence was ever produced.
But here's the real problem. Don't expect Republicans to hold themselves to the same standards. They lie, cheat, and steal and later brag about it.

(11,330 posts)Liberals keep their eye on their own pipedreams
Liberals fail basic understanding of politics that without control of government, all their plans are pipedreams
The fact that you think your pipedream is so superior to someone else's pipedream that its okay if their pipedream fails because it isn't your superior pipedream
The fact that YOU are unwilling to compromise on a pipedream somewhere in the middle between today and your pipedream because it isn't your superior pipedream or because you've been waiting for your pipedream too long
The fact that YOU are willing to let the country burn down because your pipedream isn't in the current plan and what other liberals were offering wasn't good enough
The fact that not only willing to let the country burn but eager to let the country burn because only revolution will fix the problems in your mind
...is why the idiot liberals are also guilty in the current disaster.
These are also the reasons why I was a lifelong independent until 2016 and why more and more people are choosing not to be either democrat or republican. Republicans are assholes and democrats have been acting like fools for decades.

(35,438 posts)Republicans only want three things: cut taxes, de-regulate, and start a war somewhere.
Liberals want to: address income inequality, healthcare, social justice, climate change, education, the environment, global trade, peace around the world, etc. These things would take multiple decades of control of government to enact.
In football, we would say that Republicans have the short field. What they want to do is simple and easy. And, they can get massive funding from a handful of people to fund it.
