(52,206 posts)with the electoral college system, no matter how many systems you hack in one state, you only get that state's electoral votes.
so you might have to hack, say, florida *and* pennsylvania *and* michigan *and* ohio *and* wisconsin. just as a random example.
whereas, for the popular vote, you can just hack one system and flip the margin of victory needed. donnie could in theory have manufactured 4 million more votes in wyoming.
also, fraud that happens in overwhelmingly partisan precincts becomes relevant. find the reddest precinct in the reddest state and just claim the population is 10 times what it is. if there aren't any democrats around to object, that's easy to pull off in broad daylight.
which means finding fraud would be hard because it could happen anywhere.
the electoral college at least pushes fraud into the "swing" states where there are more likely to be both democrats and republicans around to make fraud more challenging.
i like popular vote over electoral college, but until our voting systems are secure, it would only make fraud even easier.

(3,515 posts)elections and cheats voters in populous states like California.
Each state could still add up the tally of its votes and then the total tally would be added up at the national level. Ballots could still be on paper with a copy that could be counted by hand if needed.
End the electoral college. If you do the math, you will see how unfair it is to voters in populous states.
We should not have "swing states."

(52,206 posts)the electoral college is undeniably just a stupid relic of an old compromise.
but the fraud issues need to be addressed, and when *donnie* is advocating popular vote, it's not because it's more fair and democratic!

(3,515 posts)We need a paper copy of each vote so that we can recount. No matter whether we have the electoral college or not, a copy, a paper copy of each vote should be required.
