She was funny and a little edgy at times. I didn't think she was mean at all.

(3,168 posts)Conservatives have no ideas, no agenda, no policies to help anyone except the 1%. To distract their base, they have to manufacture controversy. Wolf's jokes were no different than what other people have done. It's a ROAST, for crying out loud!
This will fade in a day or two. No one even remembers last years' dinner! I'd say that most of your average voters out there have never even heard of the White House Correspondents' Dinner, and they probably don't give a shit about it.

(16,124 posts)a male comedian would have got a "well, that was rude" about a few of the jokes and then it would be over.

(15,805 posts)While we are deep into this overblown Wolf hullabaloo, no one is discussing the key points of her monologue. Start with:
Women's rights
The Responsibilities of a Free Press
Truth in Government
Trump's free pass on almost everything

(82,849 posts)At least, that's what I can tell from the commentary. I am unaware of anything Sarah Sanders may have said about it. Matt Schlapp (participant in the 2000 Brooks Brothers riot in favor of George W. Bush) and his wife Mercedes claimed they walked out because of unspecified "elitist" attacks on their august personages. Though they did find time later that night to assuage their hurt feelings at NBC's after party.
In any event, whatever it's about, it's obviously very, very important, because the popular media have spent far more time on this than on any actual event of the past several days/weeks/months.

(43,197 posts)It was a roast. I mean, who in the hell gets offended by a roas--
Okay, never mind.
As I said in my post this morning, in a day or two some news out of Trussia will break, Trump will do and tweet 50 crazy things, and by week's end no one will even remember the WCHD.
Honestly, without Googling, how many of us can tell us who hosted last year's WHCD, and what sort of jokes were told? And be honest.

(13,390 posts)likening Sanders to Aunt Lydia from the Handmaid's Tale called up previous criticisms of frumpiness and unattractiveness. Aunt Lydia is decidedly and intentionally so for thetrical and literary effect.
