Pierce: Only Democrats Could F*ck This Up, Volume Infinity

Only Democrats Could F*ck This Up, Volume Infinity
The DCCC manages to throw both of its candidates for a House seat under the bus.
By Charles P. Pierce
Apr 30, 2018

The NRA’s annual gathering of the gunhumpers is happening in Dallas this week. One of the items for sale is this pistol designed to look like a cellphone. Let’s set an over-under number on how many days it will take before some gunhumper will hear his cellphone ring, reach into the wrong pocket, and shoot himself in the foot.

Which brings to mind the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.

I have come to the sad conclusion that, regardless of what happens this November, the DCCC is guaranteed to do just that. There seems to be no coherent policy regarding the idea of competitive primaries. Vox has an interesting look at a winnable congressional race in Texas that has become entirely banjaxed because the DCCC can’t get out of its own way. There are two perfectly fine candidates, both women, and the DCCC somehow has turned this into a problem.

But the local race Fletcher has tried to run has nevertheless become the flashpoint for a larger drama between the party’s establishment institutions and its progressive wing. A few months ago, in the middle of a crowded Democratic primary, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) released an opposition memo slamming Fletcher’s opponent Moser for past articles she’d written seemingly denigrating parts of Texas. The unusual move to try to knock Moser out of the race elevated the congressional district’s national profile and helped Moser raise thousands of dollars in the process, making it into the runoff along with Fletcher. It’s worth noting that the DCCC has not yet added Fletcher to its Red to Blue list of top candidates (a recent email snafu saw her name added to the list, but was corrected minutes later). Fletcher said she doesn’t think local voters have been paying attention to the DCCC drama, although she added she would like to be included on the list to receive the extra resources Red to Blue candidates receive.

“I do think it’s kind of a disproportionate amount of attention for the issues in the race, and I’d hate to see our race reduced to that issue because there’s so much good stuff going on here,” [Fletcher] said.

In short, in this one campaign, the DCCC already has ratfcked one perfectly fine candidate and then ignored the other one. This kind of bungling not only creates problems on the ground, but it feeds one of the political media’s favorite narratives: namely, Democrats In Disarray.

And, this time around, due to the 2016 Democratic presidential primary campaign, which apparently is never going to end until everybody involved is dead, Democrats In Disarray is on afterburners because there is a noisy claque of “progressives” that not only is willing to contribute to the construction of the narrative, but also seems to greet its appearance with conspicuous glee. The failure to recognize the power of that narrative, and to acknowledge the changes that have occurred in it over the past two years, almost guarantees that the DCCC will stumble into situations like the one in Texas over and over again. It should just let people run and keep its thousand-pound thumbs as far from the scale as it can.

Clearly you are the opposite of familiar with Pierce, even though he is frequently excerpted on DU. Bernardo de La Paz May 2018 #4

"It should just let people run and keep its thousand-pound thumbs as far from the scale as it can."

They need to stay involved. Mistakes will be made. A certain segment will attempt to capitalize and make it a bigger story.

Who is HE to tell the Dem party & its organizations how to run their business?
How bout another big fat nobody mouthpiece with an agenda.

Anyone can be a pundit nowdays.
Sports & game shows seem to be his better field of writing.
Keep his sideline political opinions out of the business of elections & campaign where grassroots orgs are doing a damn good job at State campaigns.

He's full of himself on this call.

he is a well-respected writer and commentator who calls them like he sees them. What, there is no room for criticism now?

Pierce is currently the lead political blogger for Esquire, a position he has held since September 2011.[8] He also wrote for ESPN's Grantland.[9] He has also written for The New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, the Chicago Tribune, the Boston Globe Sunday magazine, the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, Sports Illustrated, The National Sports Daily, GQ, and the e-zine Slate as well as the Media Matters blog Altercation, hosted by historian/pundit Eric Alterman.

Perhaps the big FUCK UP should be addressed to the gunhumpin Repubs who, so far, have brought fascism to our govt.

Shut the fuck up & point your finger at the real ones who have fked up this country.

DEMS will, ONCE AGAIN, step in to clean up the nightmare the Repubs left behind.

Who is this writer really chummin for again?

Bla bla Dems, bla bla fk up, bla bla....

Shall we revisit 2016 to see what bs was being shouted about. Oh ya, THE DEMS!
The Dems will do just fine for this country once again, when the opinion writers & media gets over itself & stops fking up.

What?, no repubs in Tx to critique?
Start with the real problem, cuz it sure isn't the Dems.

Pierce should stick to sports & game shows
