Ari just announced his next segment after commercial...Tony Schwartz, Trump's famous and brilliant biographer....WHAT DOES DONALD TRUMP DO WHEN HE IS CORNERED? And I am breathlessly waiting for his words of wisdom.
What have we come to? The leader of the free world is a vile cunning animal we are trying to 2nd guess...OH dear Obama, we miss you so...and the media has normalized this crap.

(22,574 posts)I wonder how many Romans at the time recognized or suspected that the Empire would fall, or did most just think they would return to their former glory?
Are there those here in the U.S. who are prescient and honest enough to realize that this nation is in its decline. Why would we believe it could never happen to us when it has happened to other great nation?
We have become tribalized into partisan extremes in which each side demonizes the other, each existing in their own echo chambers where they get their beliefs confirmed with the other side being condemned as evil. Of course I have no doubt that the Left and all of us here at DU are absolutely correct. But if this were happening in some other nation, a third world country perhaps, we would swear they are ready for a violent civil war. Are there those convinced this could never happen here?
I wish I could say that it could never happen here, but in all honesty I cannot. From my point of view, I have lived too long and have seen the Left too often become complacent instead of vigilant, too often fragmenting into factions instead of supporting the greater good. The tens of millions of Trump supporters are going nowhere and it's my experience that too often Republicans view voting as their duty while those on the Left need to be excited and motivated in order to cast their ballots. Fortunately since I'm an old duffer I'm likely only to see the decline of the U.S. rather than its fall unless it's a crash.
