Riders on the Storm: The Disaster Trumpists Have Created

"Watching this mess, one can’t help wondering if the folks who are responsible for putting this unflushed toilet of an administration into power are, on some level, addicted to chaos."

Watching this mess, one can’t help wondering if the folks who are responsible for putting this unflushed toilet of an administration into power are, on some level, addicted to chaos. Do they find this stuff entertaining? Do they get off on having reality TV in the White House?

I mentioned earlier the media’s exploitation of John McCain’s illness. When McCain finally passes away, we’ll surely see replayed over and over the moment ten years ago when McCain stood up to an elderly, bigoted member of his base at a rally in Minnesota. One wonders if the press will ever track down that woman (assuming she’s still alive), ask her if she voted for Trump (surely she did), and ask her if she’s proud of the mess the 45th president has created.

Last week, Suffolk University released a poll with some interesting findings related to the 2020 presidential election:

Even though Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren has declared that she is not running for president in 2020, her shadow looms over the New Hampshire Democratic presidential primary, according to a new Suffolk University poll of New Hampshire voters. President Donald Trump dominates the Republican side…

Active campaigning in New Hampshire is still a year and a half away, but were Warren to enter the fray, she would lead among probable Democratic primary voters. In a theoretical field of candidates, Warren was the choice of 26 percent of respondents, followed by former Vice President Joe Biden (20 percent), Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders (13 percent), New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker (8 percent), California Sen. Kamala Harris and former Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick (4 percent each). New York Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand and former Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe (2 percent each), with 18 percent undecided.

Let’s say we do end up with Trump vs. Warren in 2020, assuming Trump does not resign by then (he won’t be impeached even if Democrats recapture the House and Senate this year). How many of the 62 million who voted for Trump the last time around will do so again, despite all the chaos and covfefe of Trump’s first term, because they’ll buy into Trump’s pathetic “Pocahontas” prattling? Dick Cheney once famously observed, “[Ronald] Reagan proved that deficits don’t matter.” We could look back years from now and mournfully observe, “Donald Trump proved that truth doesn’t matter.”

'Trumpism' is a lazy relabeling of what the Republicans relied on to propel themselves to power.

however that term came about it......."Trumpism" is just christofascist selective populism relabeled.

It is not new, not innovative, just the same old tired, thuggish and despotic right wing extremism of the birchers, patriot movement, tea party, KKK, neo-nazi, another misnomer "alt-right", randian utopians, "libertarians" (wink, wink), reconstructionists, dominionists, miitia groupies, sovereigns, constitutionalists....

all of them conservative/reactionary christian movements based on racism, authoritarianism, scapegoating, fear mongering, ultra nationalism, militarism, misogyny.

The judges Trump has appointed to the bench will still be making important decisions after he has died of old age.

But at this time, if the Left does not unite and stand together in these next 2 elections at least we will assuredly be in the decline of the American experiment.
The tens of millions of Trump supporters are going nowhere. Even if the Democrats retake Congress and the White House in the next 2 elections they will be here, doing everything they did during the Obama years to stop what we see as progress. They will wait until the Left becomes complacent and then they will be back.
But if Trump somehow survived and is reelected beyond all reason as he was elected the first time, then as members of the Left we will truly know and understand what kind of hell other nations of the world have had to endure. And the way this nation as become polarized and tribalized with hate for each extreme for the other, if this were a third world nation we would be expecting there to be a violent civil war to decide things one way or the other.
But that could never happen here, right?

I know that it will take 20 years to undo what the past two years has done to the country. If we are stuck with two more years (likely we will be) it will take longer than that to ever get back to where we were before this current disastrous admin and both chambers.

The Right Winger and their beloved FOX Media is good at promoting "DRAMA FIXES" on a daily basis, along with Limbaugh, O'Reilly and other right wing talking heads... and the people rush to get their "daily drama fix".... Trump to this is like the Super-Fest of Drama Making for the Drama Addicts. Their is NOTHING in America he has not criticized - he thinks putting everything else down, lifts him up... when it only shows he has no respect for anything. His Drama Junkies Love It.

His TV show was all about "putting people down" and "denigrating "has been media star's of a decade earlier"... he built himself up by putting other down and trying to humiliate them on national TV, simply became their career's had reached it peak and was on the down side.
