I gotta give it the Republicans, they are so shameless in their lying that they'll say absolutely anything. Whatever works. Now they're claiming that it was a database search that listed lots of unrelated financial transactions to other people named Michael Cohen. And probably a different Russian Oligarch and a different Korean aerospace company, too. And Trump? Who is this Trump guy you speak of? Pure coincidence.

(62,444 posts)That is a link to NBC News, who contacted one of the Michael Cohens in question.
Whether one chooses to believe that NBC News actually contacted one of the Michael Cohens in question, is a matter of personal belief.

(2,857 posts)Way back when this Prague trip was topic of the day, one of the claims was that there are multiple people with that name.

(62,444 posts)You are confused.
The major transactions have been confirmed by Novartis, AT&T and the other company (Nova Columbus or whatever) to have been made to Cohen.
There ARE different Michael Cohens among the smaller transactions.

Among them was a $980 payment from two individuals in Kenya, Netanal Cohen and Stav Hayun, to a Michael Cohen. NBC News spoke to the man who received those funds, and he said Avenatti has the wrong guy.
"I am an Avionic technician in El Al airlines. So, no, not a lawyer," said Michael Cohen, 26, from Ashdod, Israel. "No, I never talk with or meet Trump."
He said that his brother Netanel wired him the money when he was living in Kenya. "He owed me some money," he said.
The 26-year-old Michael Cohen said he had no idea how the mixup could have occurred, but said he's been getting lots of attention.
"My whole family was surprised. Friends called me, It was a crazy day," he said.
NBC is lying. Is that your point?

(62,444 posts)Nobody is saying the payments from Novartis, AT&T, etc. went to anyone other than the Michael Cohen in question.
Who is the "they" in this sentence:
"Now they're saying it was different "Michael Cohens?""
There are some minor transactions which involved different Michael Cohens. Can you provide a link to anyone saying that all or most of the transactions were to different Michael Cohens, or is that something you just came up with?
"Now they're claiming that it was a database search that listed lots of unrelated financial transactions to other people named Michael Cohen."
Again, who is the "they" making that claim?
Obviously, in order to come up with the ones which are incorrect, there must have been a database search involved. That's just a simple conclusion based on the fact that if the information was based on Cohen's bank statements, bank account records of his company, or other direct sources, it would not have included the minor incorrect ones.

(31,464 posts)It seemed designed to elicit confusion and cloud the issue, as if we can't really believe that any of these transactions actually happened because they found some wrong Michael Cohens on the list.

(62,444 posts)I don't think there is a lot of confusion around the fact that AT&T, Novartis and the other one with the funny name (Novo Columbus, I think), confirmed their payments.
There is some question around where Avenatti got the information, and the errors in what he published, although minor, provide a clue that question.
I sincerely doubt anyone on any news program was advancing the proposition that "we can't really believe that any of these transactions actually happened" since several of the organizations making them have confirmed them (although Avenatti got the total figures wrong on Novartis - further indicating that he had a window into a limited time span, and which further suggests it was a search of some sort of database).
