If you watched Rachel last night you heard her ask him how he was funding his work. He cited Ms. Daniels and also their crowdfunding site. It took no time at all for the RWers to start spinning lies.

(31,819 posts)(April 10, 2017, 1:27 PM EDT) -- LOS ANGELES A California federal jury on April 7 returned a $454 million verdict in a California class action trial alleging that defendants Kimberly-Clark Corp. and spinoff Halyard Health Inc. sold surgical gowns that did not meet standards for protecting operating room personnel from bodily fluids (Bahamas Surgery Center, LLC, et al. v. Kimberly Clarke Corporation, et al., No. 14-8390, C.D. Calif.).
According to a press release from plaintiff law firm Eagan Avenatti of Newport Beach, Calif., the eight-person jury in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California returned a unanimous verdict after a two-week trial. The firm said it is likely one of the largest verdicts in U.S. history against a medical device maker.
In an April 10 press release, Kimberly-Clark said it believes the jurys verdict is contrary to the evidence presented at trial and that its punitive damages award is baseless, excessive and not consistent with California and federal laws. It said it intends to file post-judgment motions with the District Court and then to appeal to the Ninth Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals.
I've got a feeling Mr. Avenatti has MORE money than 45/140. Like - a lot more.

(6,356 posts)That settlement was likely dumped in an escrow account with a third party escrow firm. Neither side wil have access to it until KC releases it to Avenatti after appeals. Or back to KC if Avenatti loses on appeal.

(31,819 posts)I just don't want them portraying him as some low level ambulance chaser.
The guy worked for Rahm Emmanuel. He's no dummy. He knows exactly what he's doing here.
Truthfully? I think 45/140's are far outmatched. He needs like - the ghost of Johnny Cochran.

(6,356 posts)I misunderstood and thought you were saying he was flush from the settlement. But yeah...his work with Rahm, and his general track record...hes a serious contender. That hes ALSO a good theatrical director is just gravy.

(4,407 posts)He could take this case pro bono and he will still come out ahead. This kind of publicity and high profile activity will make him one of the most sought after lawyers in the Country. He could even do what John Cochran did after the O.J. trial and franchise his name on firms all around the country.
There is no sacrifice being made here by Avenatti over the long haul.
