Haddonfield High School, Camden Co., PA. In a recent incident, just days ago, a student from a different school was called a racial slur word by a member of the Haddonfield Lacrosse team. What the school did in response is a model that others should follow:

(146,288 posts)What is remarkable here, is that the school administration took immediate steps, and strong ones, to demonstrate that such behavior has consequences. That's not how things usually happen. A lot of credit goes to the principal or administrator who acted swiftly in dealing with the incident. Also to the student who reported it and continued to report it until something was done.
Good job on everyone's part. The lacrosse team? Dumbasses.

(146,288 posts)Tolerating or ignoring bigotry without speaking out against it can be seen as support for it. There's a lot of that out there. The coach of that team is particularly wrong for not dealing with the situation. Instead, he ignored it. Now, there's no lacrosse team to coach this season. I suspect he took a lesson from that, too.

(3,011 posts)Cancelling the season for the entire team is unfortunate unless every member of the team is guilty. That's just punishing all for the actions of a few. The offenders should be removed from the team and the coach fired.

(146,288 posts)Apparently, there was an investigation by the school and other problems turned up that led to canceling the season. No details were given in the stories.
One issue was that other members of the team said nothing about what happened, nor spoke out about it. But more details are not available. I will leave the decision to the school's administrators as to what action they took.

My hate is off to all. That took courage to act so swiftly, decisively and justly.

(6,254 posts)Haddonfield is known for its great schools and upper income community. The kids who attend Haddonfield for the most part are white upper class, privledged kids. Haddonfield consistently out performs most schools in souther NJ. However, these kids who come from wealthy families have also had their share of controversy. Coming from families with high income the there has been problems with drugs and other mischief. About 8 years ago some of the kids attended a party at another kids house and totally destroyed it. I mean million dollar homes and some kids defecated on a piano located in the home. Its good to see the administration take swift action in this case. These kids come from one of the the highest income areas in the State and have every advantage money can buy. But I guess money cannot buy class.

I am out! I am also white and 63. I'm getting too old for hate!
I find most of my aquaintences to be other than white. That is great. I already know about white people. It's more interesting learning of others.
I may never travel again, but the world is all around me.

(26,620 posts)the coach should have reacted immediately and it would have ended there. Yes, Haddonfield is setting a standard, and that's good.
