The numbers may have been much higher if he had an AR-15?
Ten killed and ten wounded sounds horrible, and it is. But it may have been a lot worse?
Our condolences to those that lost loved ones today.

(61,695 posts)have died at the hospital if not sooner if an AR15 had been used. Surgeons who have ooerated on GS victims declare the AR15 causes much more extensive damage to the body.
AR-15 rounds travel supersonic and cause massive flesh trauma. They are a weapon of war, designed specifically to kill humans efficiently.
Not to mention the much higher magazine sizes and much faster reloads. Yes, we can be thankful that at least it was not as bad as it could have been. But that of course does not take away any of the tragedy that has occured.

(2,541 posts)They are designed exactly as you state. I read an the interview of a Doctor who treated the injuries sustained by the victims of the Las Vegas shooting and he was very clear about the enormous difference in damage done by an AR-15 vs. what he sees from handguns. The kinetic energy of these rounds is catastrophic. There were cases in that event of multiple victims being injured by the same bullet.
