Paul Ryan's House Is Collapsing

https://politicalwire.com/2018/05/20/paul-ryans-house-is-collapsing/

"SNIP........

Jonathan Swan: “Paul Ryan’s House is collapsing, and if the chaos keeps accelerating it could force him out of the speakership before his planned graceful exit at the end of the year.”

“A group of about 20 moderate Republicans are threatening to help Democrats force a vote on a DACA bill. If this works, it could trigger a larger rebellion — likely driven by the Freedom Caucus — similar to the revolt that brought down Ryan’s predecessor John Boehner.”

“On Friday, House Republicans failed to pass the farm bill — one of Congress’s few remaining must-pass projects. Ryan, a lame duck Speaker, has little power over his members. He can’t convincingly threaten them. And nor can he cajole them or make any promises to help members in the future. He’s stuck.”

“The Republican House is careening into chaos at the moment its members most need to rally together. We’re less than six months away from the midterms, and the House is on the line. Hill Republicans are anxious and effectively leaderless. Nobody fears repercussions from a lame duck Speaker. So even the usually well-behaved moderate members are wreaking havoc.”

or was Ryan just being ignorant when he announced his retirement? I'm hesitant to think he just tripped badly. It was an error that was too easy to know the outcome. If there's some plan or logic I can't see it, but I'd keep my eyes open just the same.

It's not like the House had a big agenda for the rest of the year. If his caucus is falling apart, Ryan couldn't care less. He has no sense of responsibility, no impulses toward the public good. If he leaves a smoking pile of rubble where the House used to be, that's not his problem.

I'm an optimist like that. I hoped he'd adopt some moderation once he took over the gavel, but instead he proved that all that Ayn Rand philosophy wasn't idle campaign talk. He turned out to be the most heartless right wing House Leader in my long memory, always blatently shunning the needy to grease the wheels of corporate greed.

Does anyone doubt he already has a lobbyist position lined up? At least Boehner now lobbies for weed, but Ryan will probably work tirelessly on the corporate trifecta: To commandeer and destroy the land, sea, and air.

Rot in hell, prick.

He accomplished his mission: Tax cut for millionaires & billionaires and big corporations. He had hoped for doing away with Social Security, too, but hey, you can't win everything.

He's biding his time, taking all the offers for juicy corporate jobs worth millions, as a "thank you" for the tax cut bill. He's going off in the sunset to live his life in mind blowing wealthy comfort, and leaving the mess behind for others to worry about.

That's so far in the future, and if Trump stays in office, not much chance a Repub will win. It also depends on the political makeup of the Party. If the wacko extremists are still around in large numbers, he can't become the nominee. They hate him.

But his kids will be older or grown, so he has that option. Personally, I think he's looking forward to big bucks from some cushy corporate job, and a couple of places on corporate boards. But he might start missing the spotlight.

I think it is the sheer agony of being part of Congress which is driving so many GOPers to the exits. What the Republicans have spawned in government has turned in on itself. No alpha dog can lead a pack of rabid beasts because the beasts don't want to be led. With a little more Tea Party spirit, we can have Bolshevik investigations of any Republican who ever did a good, honest thing in his life. Hell is a Republican majority with no Obama to hate.
