May 21, 2018 at 10:15 am EDT By Taegan Goddard
As President Trump calls for an investigation into whether the FBI infiltrated his campaign in a supposedly nefarious plot, some of his defenders suggest that if the FBI wasnt out to get him they would have at least tried to warn him.
Of course, the FBI did warn him, right after he became the GOP nominee on July 19, 2016.
As NBC News reported last year:
The candidates were urged to alert the FBI about any suspicious overtures to their campaigns, the officials said.
It would be entirely reasonable to think the FBI would use informants to speak to suspects in their counterintelligence investigation into the Russia threat including those in the Trump campaign.
In fact, it would have been accepted procedure for the FBI.

(8,200 posts)Trump is becoming increasingly reckless as the investigation continues unabated by Mueller. I fear that Trump will attempt to use the claim of the Unitary Executive theory to shut down the investigation. This was a tacit of Bush during his presidency advanced by the neocons, such as Professor Yoo, that has been rejected by the majority of constitutional scholars. I would not be surprised if Bolton, a neocon member of the PNAC who pushed into the Iraq War, is encouraging this tactic. It would in effect result in a virtual autocratic government little different than those of China and Russia.
The government that has emerged in Russian and China can be described as a marriage between an autocratic government and capitalism under one party rule and are in close ties to the oligarchs. It is a natural condition that is highly acceptable to the ultra-wealthy oligarchs who view it as system for protecting their wealth. This concept is becoming increasingly more popular in a number of Western Countries, including Poland, Germany, Italy France, Turkey...and is not limited to communistic governments. It driven basically by the stagnation of wages and the increasing concentration of wealth and is easily preyed on by demagogues who scapegoat immigration as a major culprit and calling for protectionism and spewing nationalistic extremism.
It could be a very challenging time for the nation since it has been polarized by radical left wing extremists who also appear to be susceptible and even welcoming to these notions. It is also influenced to no small amount by the evangelicals who are especially addicted to concepts of authoritarianism coupled with messianic end-time beliefs.

(8,200 posts)The Bush administration should have been held accountable for taking us into war on absolute lies concocted by Cheney, Rummy, and the neocons. I will never agree with not holding them accountable and in essence allowing them to disseminate their damnable lies even after they left office. The whole damn administration should be in Leavenworth.

* Reagan - Iran military supplies promised via Israel hand off - then use the $$ to covertly finance the extreme right wing Nicaraguan Contras by military attache Oliver North - in direct and illegal defiance to the intent of the US Congress - all if Iran held the American Embassy employees hostage until after the Carter/Reagan national election.
* Bush II & Cheney illegal Iraq War based on lies and innuendo. Illegal wire tap of USA citizens, outing of CIA covert operative, tampering with the American election systems to assure a Bush victory.

(22,114 posts)suspicious overtures...all of RUMP's people seemed to ignore everything going on around them or they all experienced a mass hallucination that no Russians were around, or actually brought the Russians in by invitation, a more likely scenario. A bunch of idiots all around RUMP, which makes sense, since RUMP can't stand anyone else being smarter than he is. Too bad, RUMP is about to be 'schooled' repeatedly and harshly by history, the American people standing for decency in governing, and all of the diseases that RUMP picked up in fooling around.
Disgusting.

(56,828 posts)they were already in on it, so probably took steps to cover their collusion tracks.
Trump himself, as I stated below, may have tuned out the briefing because it didn't contain lots of colorful pictures and every sentence wasn't "A noun, a verb and Trump"
(Not saying Trump wasn't in on the deal, but that he tuned it out)

Making a big deal about this so-called imbedded informant just makes them look all the more guilty.

In fact, he'll probably use this as an excuse as to why he didn't already know!

(47,419 posts)are quick to accuse others of doing so. This has become Trump's default position whenever he is confronted with his own corruption and possible criminality. If he HAD shot a person on Fifth Ave, he would accuse his opponents of "politicizing" it, if they brought it.
Trump knew what the FBI was investigating, yet he was too stupid and arrogant to think they could or would expose him. He only saw the FBI in terms of how they could serve him and defeat his enemies. When they refused to do his bidding, they then became his enemies.

(8 posts)An article (I just published on Medium) that's based on translated text messages from the Senate Judiciary document release strongly suggests that Russians were in regular contact with the Trump team at this point, and moreover had an expectation of contact.

The article also suggests that there was a planned meeting between Trump and Aras Agalarov around this time, and includes a few other strong hints of a quid pro quo.
