This is the kind of bracelet* that Trump's ICE is forcing people to wear.
If I had the means to do so, I'd make some and distribute them so that we could all show HUMAN solidarity with those who are being forced to wear them.
*Its been brought to my attention that the picture is NOT one of the immigration bracelets; rather, it IS from a organization that does very good humanitarian work. The picture came up when I googled immigration ICE bracelet, and I didnt take the time to dig deeper. My bad. And my very sincere apologies to that organization. That said, Im leaving the picture to provide context for latecomers to the thread.
Also Whether or not the Denmark story is true is irrelevant. The fact that bracelets were instituted during Ws tenure is also irrelevant. What does matter is this: We currently have a head of state who takes every opportunity to revile anyone who does not look like him. We have a president who incites racist speech and action. We have a commander-in-chief who gleefully deports veterans of our armed services, and revels in the wrenching separation of children from their parents. He owns the horror that we presently deal with.
That said, we are presented with the opportunity to show that we do not share the joy he takes in the cruel treatment of other humans. We can wear a yellow bracelet of any design to show our solidarity in the simple concept of humane brotherhood. We can rise above the stench he is putting on our global reputation. We can decide to prove that we really do believe those words inscribed on the Statue of Liberty. Wearing a yellow bracelet cannot accomplish all that, but it could be an expression of a beginning.

I am sure that they are cheap to produce. I wonder if there are any clear bands at an art supply store to use yellow marker on and wrap some silver tape around it.
*****I just googled them and there ore a ton of varieties available and really cheap. (1000 for $25) They come in differen styles. You could do this pretty easily and not break the bank.

(51,642 posts)from my art supplies and misc stuff I collect. However I just read that these have been used since 2005 and the moron didn't order them and it is false info. Oberliner mentioned this.
Since I live in San Diego and there are a lot of immigrants here I may wear it to support them. I have to decide what to write on it ("immigrant" or "fuck ICE" . If I get nabbed I can whip out my wallet size passport card for proof of citizenship. I AM an immigrant. My mom did our genealogy and my great, great, great grandmother came here in a boat called The Fortune in 1621 which came after the Mayflower.

(5,075 posts)BTW, even if ICE asks for your papers, you have the right to not respond. The burden of proof to show that you are not here legally is on the Federal government. For undocumented immigrants questioned by ICE, most are too afraid and/or don't know their rights and they end up saying that they don't have any "papers," which is an admission that is used by ICE in removal/deportation proceedings.

We were told that we are 10% Native American while growing up but my mom did that DNA stuff that you see on TV and found that we are 0%. She went to the Mormon libraries for records over the years and was able to get a ton of info through a lot of work and determination. Then she did the DNA thing and it gave her data to keep her busy for 10 more years.
As a former teacher I taught my classes more than what we were required to teach like history and geography and ecology. I even taught civics and how to vote to my first graders. They LOVED voting. I taught them about nutrition too. They would go home and tell their parents to vote and that they weren't eating healthy food. I heard all about that at report card conference time (the good and bad feedback). Oh well, I tried.

(6,831 posts)You are referring to a medical alert bracelet. I (and several members of my family) have had to wear one of these bracelets for years and they look absolutely nothing like the bracelet in the picture.
Also, this is not a "BS" story. There are plenty of posts from news outlets that this is indeed happening now.
Please do not spread erroneous information about life-saving medical identifiers. That kind of ignorant talk could end up getting someone killed.

(34,117 posts)before accurate information ignorant. There is a difference between a medical alert bracelet and an ICE (in case of emergency) bracelet worn by cyclists and other sports participants whose sports place them a distance from others who might know who they are or who to contact in case of an accident - and who often don't have convenient places to carry emergency information while geared up for the sport

(6,831 posts)Is that hundreds of thousands of people wear medical alert bracelets and pendants (worn around the next) the look NOTHING like these yellow bands. Also, if an athlete drops to the ground during an event, most likely the people around them already know they have a medical condition, unlike say, my Dad, who is a "brittle" diabetic, walking through the mall all by himself and falls to the floor.
Don't be so quick to criticize until you understand exactly what the other person writes. If in doubt . . . try asking.
Ms. Toad
(34,117 posts)I have direct experience with both bracelets. Of course they don't look the same - They serve two very different purposes, and no one (other than you ) suggested that the yellow bracelets were medic alert tags.
The medic alert tag provides critical health-related information about tits wearer, In my case I have a clotting disorder and, at times in my life, am on dangerous levels of blood thinners and certain standard emergency treatments would kill me. The tag alerts medical personnel about the medical condition, so that the patient can be treated - not killed.
The ICE (In Case of Emergency - not Immigration Customs & Enforcement) is for extreme sports - to permit emergency personnel to contact next of kin when the rider is unknown and far from home. In an organized events, an athlete knocked to the ground would likely have a flat tag on his back with ICE information on the back side). But anyone going down in a packs during an organized ride has also been practicing regularly in advance of the organized ride -and regularly rides alone for up to 50 miles away from home. to prepare That's where the ICE tag comes in. When police come across a cyclist carrying little more than a water bottle, and they don't recognize her because she is far from home, the ICE bracelet will permit them to find their family
I have worn both in my life. Apparently you have not. Did you even click the links I gave you - or take your own advice - if in doubt . . . try asking

It is important for the credibility of our side to not help disseminate that lie.
There are so many awful things going on with respect to immigration and the Trump administration - let's focus on the demonstrably true ones.
When we buy into this other nonsense, we look foolish and lend credence to his paranoid claims about his various antagonists.

(171,102 posts)Parents, children ensnared in 'zero-tolerance' border prosecutions
By Curt Prendergast and Perla Trevizo Arizona Daily Star May 25, 2018 Updated 20 min ago
Alma Jacinto covered her eyes with her hands as tears streamed down her cheeks.
The 36-year-old from Guatemala was led out of the federal courtroom without an answer to the question that brought her to tears: When would she see her boys again?
Jacinto wore a yellow bracelet on her left wrist, which defense lawyers said identifies parents who are arrested with their children and prosecuted in Operation Streamline, a fast-track program for illegal border crossers.

The ICE in this case is 'In Case of Emergency'.
This is likely a rebranded RoadID bracelet- https://www.roadid.com/ They come in different styles and materials. They're often given to folks who compete in running, cycling, or other sponsored outdoor events.
This particular bracelet, came from https://qhubeka.org/news/new-qhubeka-ice-id-bracelets-now-available/
This appears to be a humanitarian project in South Africa, providing bicycles to folks who need them.

What may be new is colour coordination for different statuses, perhaps the yellow bracelet from the article (the Arizona one, not the misleadingly-headlined Washington Press one) may be for parents that have a child or children in ICE custody as well. I am sure Operation Streamline is even more brutal under Trump, but it was already bad news under Bush and Obama.

https://qhubeka.org/news/new-qhubeka-ice-id-bracelets-now-available/
In Case of Emergency Identification (ICE ID) has these stylish, new Qhubeka identification bracelets in stock.
According to Gila Overton of ICE ID, Essentially the bracelet is for everyone. anything can happen when out and about, from a car accident to a bee sting while hiking. If a person wearing an ICE ID bracelet is involved in an accident, the first person on the scene can read on the bracelet who they are and who to call in case of emergency. The tag also has medical aid details. There is no annual membership fee and no call centre, as all the essential information is on the tag, so theres no delay in getting the person the best care in the shortest possible time.
The bracelets are ideal for cyclists, runners and other sportspeople, as well as anyone with a medical condition or allergies information that is critical if the person is injured and needs medical treatment. The ICE ID bracelets are available in three different sizes. Small is recommended for children, medium for women and large for men. The strap is made of high-grade silicone and the tag is stainless steel. The tag will be laser engraved with up to six lines of personal and medical information.
We have been selling In Case of Emergency bracelets for over seven years in South Africa and more recently in the UK, says Gila. It started as a family business. My sister was a runner and I was a cyclist, and we saw the need for a product like this, so together we started the business in Cape Town in 2007.
To purchase a Qhubeka ICE ID bracelet, visit the website. The cost is R179, excluding postage, and this price includes the engraving of your personal details. R50 of the bracelet price will be donated to Qhubeka.
