Why do we treat Trump like a stupid clown instead of the insidious threat that he is?

Yes, Trump is a clown. Sure, kids can giggle at all the 'fun' nicknames for Trump that mock the color orange and poop... LOL, right? OK, Trump is crazy, stupid, self-centered, egotistical, etc., etc., but he's getting his twisted message across, yeah? Are we able to boast the same thing?

We all joke and laugh about Trump's failures, flops, and foibles -- he's such a ripe target! -- but he's throwing most of the negative press right back with his own spin, neatly rebranded, gift wrapped and the public gobbles up his gaudy, gold bredazzled alternative facts. Ha Ha Ha???

For all that he acts like a buffoon, Trump is a dangerous man and what he's doing is seriously scary. Yes, more media critics recognise the threat that he poses to our little experiment in democracy, but it might already be too little, too late. There's just not enough nationally known spox to sound the alarm and challenge Trump's lies, so he continues to undermine the functions of government at all levels.

Maybe the denouement is already at hand. It feels as if we are close to something, a tipping point of some sort, and Trump is shifting all that rainbow fluff about "We the People", to "We the Oligarchs". We're still joking about what a numbskull he is, while Trump's brand of fascism, or libertarian utopia, or plutocracy, or kleptocracy -- whatever it is -- is reshaping our societal norms.

to believe it might be too little too late. It will never be too late to get him out of office, and we've got to work hard to get our voters to the polls despite what the media is sayingor not saying. The fastest way to lose this war is to allow the Republicans to remain in control after the upcoming mid-terms.

German newspapers treated Hitler like a clown too. Only one paper warned of the danger, from Bavaria where he started out. They were one of the first papers to be closed down when Hitler took power.

Maybe it's human nature to think that no sane person would ever do such-and-such preposterous thing, but then inevitably it finally happens and we're dumbstruck.

I've had this unreasonable terror of clowns for my whole. Don't know why, but it's sort of hardwired in and bone deep, and I can't just abide anyone who resembles a clown.
