President Donald Trump mocked the expected Democratic rival of GOP Senate hopeful Rep. Marsha Blackburn Tuesday night during a campaign-style rally in Nashville, describing former Tennessee Gov. Phil Bredesen as "a total tool" who he'd never heard of.
But behind closed doors hours earlier, the president had a starkly different message for a roomful of Republican donors, telling them Bredesen is a tough opponent who has led Blackburn in the race to replace U.S. Sen. Bob Corker.
Its close. Its very close. She was down by a little bit a couple of months ago, now shes pulled even. Were in a very even race," Trump told a roomful of supporters at Gaylord Opryland Resort & Convention Center.
Media was not allowed inside the fundraiser which cost up to $44,000 to attend but the USA TODAY NETWORK-Tennessee obtained a recording of his remarks, which lasted about 15 minutes.

(58,799 posts)1. But the progressive money will go to Beto
Even though Texas will turn out to be a money pit.

(10,870 posts)5. Agreed and that money should go to Tennessee and not Texas
Tennessee is very winnable with the business friendly Bredesen Dem against the horrible Trump loving Repub Blackburn.
Texas, while getting closer, is still a very long shot for Beto over Cruz.
If Dems win Tennessee, Arizona, and Nevada, they can lose one of Indiana, Montana, N.D, orMissouri and still win back the Senate.

(58,355 posts)6. I agree in regards to Bredeson but in Blackburn's defemse
her concern is firmly rooted in making sure that the less than 1% fare well and she's a Knighted Trump sycophant of the highest order with a Poison Ivy Cluster...so um she has that going for her.
