Question about the router reboot (yes, stupid question)

So I have no problem rebooting and doing whatever I need to do to upgrade, but I don't have a wireless router, only a DSL connection (which I do unplug - yes, I'm paranoid). Do I still need to be concerned?

Sorry for the stupid question

Thanks

your dsl "modem" probably contains a "router" inside... unplugging it reboots it when you plug it in.

router/modem. Unplug, wait 5 minutes or so and then plug back in and you should be ok.

Wait 60 seconds. Then plug it back in. Router rebooted. Easy peasy.

I last had to unplug my modem a week or so ago. Periodically it refuses to do its job and needs a swift kick in the form of unplug, plug back in.

So unless the malware keeps on seeking out more routers, I'm safe, right?

That one reboot should do it because the act of rebooting corrupts any possible malware.

However, any time your signal is being iffy, rebooting your router/modem often rights the problem.

If it is from your ISP, call them to ask for another piece of hardware. They will try to deny, even when they have evidence that the hardware has a history of issues, threaten to change ISPs.

I knew it was probably about time for a replacement. A couple of months ago a power outage apparently fried the earlier one. My internet provider actually sent out a man to install the new modem, which was nice, since I'm not as tech savvy as I should be.

The recent reboot was actually the first time since this new modem was put in place, so I do hope it was not a sign that this new one is getting ready to fail.

But I do appreciate that heads-up.
