Its an ultimatum any animal lover can answer: Its me or the dogs.
Thats the choice Liz Haslams husband Mike gave her after 25 years of marriage, reports Express.co.uk.
Haslam chose her numerous canines and told Mike to leave.

(2,857 posts)She probably got more companionship and loyalty from the dogs. Men with ultimatums seem like assholes imo.

WHAT a question! I slammed the door and ran upstairs.

(16,386 posts)It's usually the first ultimatum of many. It's a test. Unless it's due to a health issue, asking someone to give up their pets is the first sign of a power-imbalance in that relationship. Run, run, run.

(6,398 posts)Give up the pet who gives you the emotional support, love, entertainment, etc. vs. an asshole giving you ultimatums?
Side note, if your spouse is giving the support you need, the pets won't be an issue. Heck, the spouse is probably happy they are subbing in for him/her. If there is a jealousy issue over pets, then he or she knows they aren't doing the job....and are not doing anything to fix it.

(11,175 posts)According to the linked article, the woman decided to open a pet boarding business. That "meant lots of dogs at the Haslam house at all times." I don't know how many "lots" is. She's pictured with five dogs around her but there could have been even more.
If two people are married and living together, and one of them starts an at-home business that significantly alters the conditions at their residence, it does seem that the other spouse should have some say in the matter. Apparently he went along with it at first but it got to the point where it no longer worked for him.

If someone makes be choose between my beloved pet and them, that's a no brainer, but this is a different proposition altogether.

While she started with a few animals, she gradually increased operations. After the husband left, she increased operations further and took the guy in. The homeless guy was probably needed to do much of the work around the place.

I know someone like this who started out with a horse and ended up with over 100 animals, most of them pets.
It was running thousands per month and her husband and her are working non-stop just to barely maintain things. This is on top of his regular day job to pay the bills, where he only gets 4-5 hours of sleep a night, if that.
She tells her kids that the animals are the ONLY thing that makes her happy.
The noise, the smell of shit, and trash is everywhere.

(269,157 posts)True story - one of my good friends' son had this seriously clawing girlfriend. I used to babysit him for years so I was close enough to suggest that she was bad news. He stuck around until about two years ago when she said it's me or your friends. He looked her in the eyes and said - my friends baby - bye bye!
He got married earlier this year to a lovely young lady.
