A Texas sheriff's deputy accused of repeatedly sexually assaulting a 4-year-old girl threatened the victim's mother into staying quiet about the assaults, authorities said Sunday.

Jose Nunez, a 10-year veteran of the Bexar County Sheriff's Department, was off-duty when he was arrested early Sunday. The 47-year-old faces a felony charge of aggravated sexual assault of a child, Sheriff Javier Salazar said at a news conference.

Salazar said investigators suspect that the girl had been assaulted multiple times over the course of several months.
The girl's mother is an undocumented immigrant, Salazar said, and Nunez told her she'd be deported if she told authorities about the assaults.

"The details of the case are quite frankly heartbreaking, disturbing, disgusting and infuriating all at the same time," the sheriff said.

6. That Reminds Me

Several people have asked why we have not seen girls in detention centers and cages.

There should be journalists, (decent) congress critters, United Nations reps, people from Amnesty International, and the ACLU allowed full and unrestricted access in all such places with cameras, recording devices, supplies, food, toys, and their parents. Anything less is an unacceptable crime against humanity.

Internet room where people can bid for the right to inflict pain and torture. If anyone ever were to be OK with torture it would be with someone like this.

I try so hard to be nonviolent but people like this make me imagine all the horrible things I'd do to him if we were alone. It would be a replay of the horror movie Audition.

I'd stick Stephen Miller in his own room with an international broadcast. That's someone who needs to be strapped down and have his teeth and nails pulled one by one as a starter.
