Question about all the Refugees "guilty" pleas.

WHY are they all pleading guilty?

Would it not be better to please not guilty and force a trial? I know that would explode the system and that is the point.

and probably don't understand the ramifications. Do you honestly think ICE agents are going to tell them what their options are? or make sure they understand their rights in Spanish?

The fact is is that they DID cross the border and they likely are honest enough to admit that. The whole game of pleading innocent in order to possibly get a better outcome is not likely something they are familiar with or "trust", given no lawyers (for most) and the fact that they are INCARCERATED. How many do you think KNOW the difference in a misdemeanor charge and a felony?

I am being naive to assume people will do the right thing.

So basically this whole thing is corrupt and has been for a long time and now with Corrupt donny at the helm it's completely off the rails.

6. Trump cut the program that provided legal assistance. Right now NGO-funded and pro bono

lawyers, including those from ACLU are doing their best, but hardly adequate.

and he's counting on the chaos of the SHOCK DOCTRINE to get by with it.

Right now Civil Liberty Lawyers are most intent on stopping the childhood separation and the fact that no one is representing most of these children in their own legal procedures. A parallel track is running with cases arguing against "zero tolerance". The problem is the immediacy of the crisis is not being addressed by mere individual or even class lawsuits. There is some hope that at least a few of the State legal proceedings being brought might result in an injunction of some sort, but that has not happened yet.

3. I think they tell them they have to plead guilty to reunite

Technically, if they do the reunification should be triggered right away as theg probably now plan to deport both asap. but if they dont they will wait on avearahe 400+ days until the case is adjudicated?
