it consists of brainlessly doing exactly what you are told to do by your would-be overlords, using absolutely no common sense whatsoever in the process

For anything to be done even half-way effectively, the people doing it need to apply some intelligence to the process

Of social coldness. During nazi occupation, the main transportation was public buses. Norwegians would refuse to sit next to nazis on the bus, would stand instead. This upset the nazis so the posted signs on the bus saying “if there are empty seats you must sit, forbidden to stand.”
