(1,140 posts)Though I have to admit, I do like seeing republicans acting like that. Pat just couldn't resist an opportunity to look like a pompous racist asshole.

Buchanan argues in "Suicide of a Superpower" that "ethnonationalism" is tearing the United States apart and that the "European and Christian core of our country is shrinking." In his dire introduction, he warns that the "nation is disintegrating, ethnically, culturally, morally, politically." And he strikes the same themes during his TV and radio appearances promoting the book.
ColorOfChange.org, a civil rights organization that earlier targeted Beck's Fox News advertisers after he called President Barack Obama a "racist," urged its members on Oct. 25 to sign a petition pushing MSNBC to drop Buchanan. ColorOfChange took issue with Buchanan -- whose book includes a chapter titled "The End of White America" -- appearing on "The Political Cesspool," a "pro-white" radio program, the previous weekend.
The Anti-Defamation League, which has criticized Buchanan in the past for appearing on a show boasting white nationalist views, also took him to task for his latest appearance along with his book's subject matter.
"Buchanan has shown himself, time and again, to be a racist and an anti-Semite," ADL National Director Abraham Foxman said in a statement. "It is especially disturbing that he continues to be given a platform to espouse his views at a mainstream network like MSNBC, where he is presented as a knowledgeable and respected analyst. Buchanan continues to show his true colors by espousing hateful, bigoted statements in his new book." In a letter, Foxman urged MSNBC President Phil Griffin to take away Buchanan's platform on the network.
They usually hire those guys on a contract basis; they can be called at a moment's notice to come on in and be the right or left side on any topic. Perhaps they didn't renew his contract?

(18,628 posts)I recall a few weeks ago that he made yet another racist statement on another network.
That has to break two rules on MSNBC, the latter probably being the worst offense.
He's certainly not irreplaceable in a sea of cranky old political pundits.
On edit, I think this was his last appearance:
On Wednesday, Cain told CNN that black voters "have been brainwashed into not being open-minded, not even considering a conservative point of view." The comment received a lot of attention, and MSNBC's Martin Bashir asked Buchanan about it on his Thursday show. Buchanan said he wholeheartedly approved.
"I think the African American community has embraced Great Society liberalism which has been devastating for the African American family," he said. "...I admire Herman Cain for standing up and going against, if you will, the conventional wisdom, and being a tough African American businessman."
"Brainwashed?" Bashir said. "That's a fairly strong term."
"I think what he's saying is they bought a lot of liberal propaganda on the liberal plantation and I think he's right!" Buchanan replied staunchly.
"On the liberal plantation. Wow." Bashir said. "That's right," Buchanan said.
Buchanan got himself into hot water In August when he called President Obama "your boy" to Al Sharpton

He will probably take 75% of his secrets to the grave, but the other 25% could make this book a best-seller.

(45,319 posts)Seeing Rachel call him 'Uncle Pat' was one of the saddest things seen in media. I left and do not intend to return. The nations worst hater of gay people and other minorities, she promoted him as amusing and eccentric. She got paid. I don't respect her any more. That's life.

(63,912 posts)I'm sure that MSNBC would have him back if they thought he was a viable commentator, but the guy has just continued to be a racist and an anti-Semite. The party's over. The PTB over at MSNBC can't take a chance to creating a backlash and losing viewers over him. Not worth it. I'm sure it's purely business over there...
