Amy Coney Barrett is a judge on the Court of Appeals for the 7th Circuit & on @realDonaldTrump’s pre-approved list for SCOTUS. She passed his “litmus test” on overturning Roe v. Wade & striking down the ACA. Here’s where she stands on Americans' big issues:

Three Dems voted in favor of Barrett — Donnelly, Kaine, Manchin. Interestingly, Heitkamp was a no. (Collins and Murkowski voted for her)

I think that means they've settled on her. There's room to "Bork" Kavanaugh (at least theoretically), but she's almost immune to attack at this point because the Senate just confirmed her in October. What would Donnelly's excuse be for supporting her and then flip-flopping right before the election? We might as well give up on his Senate seat if he has to vote against her.

She's intelligent, qualified, well-spoken. A young/attractive mother of seven... but also ridiculously far right and clerked for Scalia. I had been hoping that her selection for the appellate slot took her off the list for the big step.

I think that Roberts cares enough about precedent that we wouldn't see it overturned outright - just "slippery-slope" rulings for several years on incremental measures. But she might be able to pull him over with her, and I don't see any of the other conservatives wavering.

8. here is what Roberts said about roe v wade
Mon Jul 2, 2018, 02:07 PM

Roe v. Wade is more than settled as precedent

SEN. SPECTER [as read into the record by Sen. Feinstein]: “Judge Roberts, in your confirmation hearing for the circuit court you testified: ‘Roe is the settled law of the land.’ Do you mean settled for you, settled only for your capacity as a circuit judge, or settled beyond that?”
ROBERTS: “Well, beyond that. It’s settled as a precedent of the court, entitled to respect under principles of stare decisis. And those principles, applied in the Casey case, explain when cases should be revisited and when they should not. And it is settled as a precedent of the court, yes.“
SPECTER: ”You went on to say then, ‘It’s a little more than settled. It was reaffirmed in the face of a challenge that it should be overruled in the Casey decision, so it has added precedental value.’“
ROBERTS: ”I think the initial question for the judge confronting an issue in this area, you don’t go straight to the Roe decision. You begin with Casey, which modified the Roe framework and reaffirmed its central holding.“

In his confirmation hearing in 2003 to the appeals court, when asked about abortion, Roberts said that the Supreme Court was clear on the matter, and he could uphold it: “Roe v. Wade is the settled law of the land,” he said. “There’s nothing in my personal views that would prevent me from fully and faithfully applying that precedent.” Whether as a member of the court he would try to change that law remains to be seen.

However, in 1990 he said that Roe v Wade was wrongly decided with no basis in constitution and should be overturned.

That's probably an even better indication.

And that's fine for her own life. More power to her.

The question is whether or not she feels that a judge can/should impose her personal views on the issue onto everyone else absent a legal basis.

of Democrats going after a woman over this issue. He'll hand Republicans an optic of a woman in power fighting for regressive policies. Almost as good as The Apprentice, only fraught with danger and adoring crowds throwing bouquets and laurels.
