These bastards have been following a systematic, focused, and very carefully organized and orchestrated plan over the last 30 years to impose a CONservative takeover of this country.
- From the establishment of “think tanks” and foundations that shape the discussion, the narrative, and the talking points, AND develop and groom the delivery systems, both human and non-human.
- That being the fostering of editorial writers and staffing entire editorial departments with like-minded thinkers and writers.
- Producing position papers and authoring enough books to stuff a multi-story library onthe CON worldview in all its many manifestations.
- Schooling the voices and faces that will deliver that dreck on the airwaves as well as in print. Creating outfits like the Collegiate Network that nurtured various on-camera personalities from Jonathan Karl to the bubbly blonde Melissa d’Arabian (on the Food Network for Pete’s sake) who’ll carry The Message to the masses with various levels of perceived “credibility.”
- AND building the NON-human infrastructure for the delivery very of this CON crap to the masses:
1) thanks to the deregulation of broadcasting - not just the ending of the Fairness Doctrine and Equal Time provisions but also the undoing of OWNERSHIP RESTRICTIONS - that started in the waning days of the Reagan administration. Used to be that no one could own more than three media properties in a single market like a single TV station and an AM/FM combo. That all changed. Which brought on the merger and acquisition feeding frenzy where stations from coast to coast were bought up and new networks were cobbled together. TONS of “mom ‘n’ pop radio stations in small markets were gobbled up at horrendously overinflated prices and turned into empires like ClearChannel Communications - that then sucked up every syndicated wrong-wing Limbaugh wannabe into shows that these networks splashed across hundreds of not a thousand or more small market (read: RURAL) stations. They spotted Limbaugh and the metastasizing began. There used to be 600+ owners across the US. That’s shrunk down to SIX major conglomerate owners.
- And if they could do it in radio, why not on TV, too! That’s how we got Pox News, and nw, too, Sinclair Broadcasting. The infestation is complete.

All while the Democrats snoozed. We got Roe v Wade and we got Nixon’s head on a platter and we got the EPA and other protections and we got the Vietnam War finally ended and civil rights were on the rise and we made inroads on gay rights and we came just two or three states shy of the ERA. And many of ours probably felt that the job was pretty much done, Mission Accomplished, and all was well and we could let up and go back to sleep.

And MAN were we ever WRONG!!!!

We assumed the other side would just give up, admit defeat, and go away. They didn’t. We underestimated them. They did the exact opposite. They kept at it, using every disruptive tool at their disposal and just making up more as they went. And we stayed asleep, taking the gains we’d fought for - COMPLETELY for granted. While we dropped our guard, the bad guys didn’t. And now that we’re FINALLY waking up (at least I HOPE a critical mass of us has done exactly that), it’s at a time when these bastards are on the verge of total victory.

We have whole galaxies of ground to make up. We have suffered so many setbacks that we can’t even see a finish line. My hope is that our Millennials will take it from here - as the Parkland Florida kids have done, and as their sisters will, waking up one fine morning and realizing that their right of sovereignty over THEIR OWN BODIES which is all they’ve ever known in their young lives since Roe v Wade (and that they’ve taken completely for granted) has been abruptly snatched away from them. I used to warn my daughter and her friends that this could happen if they weren’t vigilant. They rolled their eyeballs. Even some Republican moms I knew insisted “s’not gonna happen!” And I’d tell them we get complacent at our peril and our daughters’ peril. And they’d snicker that I was overreacting, and they’d laugh and scoff at me. Nobody’s laughing now. Unless of course they’re among the bad guys.
