That's the way you frame the immigration and ICE issue.

Sure, there are some fucked up racist ICE agents. Hell, they were practically begging white supremacists and Nazis to join during their recruiting, but...and I'm going to go out on a limb here...the majority of ICE employees actually want to honorably serve their country.

I can say this. I spent 30 years in the US Military, and yes, there were a bunch of reactionary racists and ignorant wingnut fucks in the military, BUT they were a small percentage . The overwhelming...and I mean OVERWHELMING majority of folks I worked with and served with were the very epitome of what we strive to be in America. Good, decent, compassionate, rational, caring, thoughtful people.

I was fortunate. I served under Carter, Reagan, Bush, Clinton, Bush II and Obama. One of the things I am most proud of is that my retirement certificate bears the signature of President Obama.

Here's the kicker. I did 30 years and was timed out. Ran out of daylight as we say in the military. That means that I had advanced as far as I was going to advance, and would hit mandatory retirement before my record would go before the Captain/O6 Selection Board.

Now, suppose I had 28.5 years in instead when Donnie Shit for Brains was elected? I could not imagine serving in the military under this ass-pickle, but I'd have a hard decision to make.

Do I stick it out to get to 30 years, or do I resign my commission and retire the day he was sworn in...knowing that over the course of my life (if I'm lucky), it would cost me hundreds of thousands of dollars in retirement pay. Retirement pay I spent 28.5 years earning.

Fortunately, I didn't have to make that choice, but that's the choice a hell a lot of our military and civil servants have to make.

It's easy to say; "well, I'd just quit", when you don't have to bear any of the costs.

What I'm saying is that the problem is NOT with ICE, or the Military, or Law Enforcement...the problem is US!

The problem is who we have allowed to be the Commander in Chief. The problem is who we've allowed to be our governors. The problem is who we've allowed to appoint cabinet officers and heads of agencies.

You want to fix ICE? You need to fix the Donnie Shit for Brains problem first.

1. I agree with you. Dems are screwing themselves with calls to abolish ICE.

There will always be an immigration enforcement organization whether it's called ICE or something else. The problem is with the policy. These people have been directed to focus on rounding up families and that means the real bad guys are getting a free pass. Of course there are bad ICE agents. There are rotten apples in the barrel in any profession. The problem is Trump, not ICE.
