will likely NOT be determinative. From all appearances, Heitcamp, Manchin, Donnelly and possibly McCaskill are already lined up with whoever Trump mominates.
Have I missed something?

Any Democrats who vote to confirm will also kiss their political careers goodbye. Maybe the Party with it, and the nation soon after.

(26,757 posts)There are a number of Democrats who would be willing to vote "no" IF it looked like the nomination could be stopped (i.e., if two Republicans were going to abstain or vote "no" ). Once it looks like we'll lose, they're free to vote "yes" in order to keep from hurting their own electoral chances.
