U.S. Soybean Prices Crumble

“Soybean prices in the U.S. and Brazil, the nations that account for roughly 80 percent of global exports, have taken drastically different paths thanks to Donald Trump’s trade war,” Bloomberg reports.

“In the U.S., average cash prices fell to about $7.79 a bushel this week, the lowest in almost a decade… Meanwhile in Brazil, exporters have been handed high times. Soybeans to be loaded in August at the nation’s Paranagua port fetched $2.21 a bushel more than Chicago futures as of Friday, the widest gap since data starts in 2014.”

Sure some of you are going to go broke or out of business or sustain a financial loss that you may never make up, but that's a price Trump is willing to pay for an easy trade war win.

Shades of Jerry Ford:

We're gonna whip inflation now
We'll all eat crow instead of cow
We'll even starve to death and how
So we can whip inflation now!

paying 2 bucks a bushel more for American soybeans. Any other country can just raise their prices, or just let the free market do it, by the same 2 bucks.

The American farmer gets screwed. Everyone else exporting soybeans is on the 🌙!

Brazil 🇧🇷. Probably need the 💵 more anyway, so a silver lining.

I paid $1.99 for a 12oz block of extra firm tofu last week, it'll be interesting to see if price/ availability changes.
