they were Swedish and not German. So until Trump, the Big Orange Swedish Meatball takes a DNA test for his "Swedish" heritage, the DNA test for Warren is moot.

(53 posts)Nice to finally be among likeminded people, its been a bit frustrating to be stuck in a deep red state these days.
The other day I brought my aunts old vcr back to her after giving it a cleaning, she thanked me by showing me a six-minute propaganda clip from One America News showing how Muslims are taking over Birmingham (England) and turning it into a child-sex-grooming bomb-making Sharia-law-imposed no-go region. I will never get those six minutes back.

(81,527 posts)There are many ways to deal with these jerks. And I'm sorry, but if they voted for trump, and AFTER all this recklessness and wreckage that's already been forced upon us in the last year-and-a-half, if they STILL support that jerk, then they too have to take their lumps.
Depends on what kind of confrontation, of course, but there's such a thing as NOT patronizing their businesses. No confrontation at all! Vote with your pocketbook.

(53 posts)And youre right, there are many ways of dealing with them. My reaction may have been a little too generalized, sometimes I catch myself doing that when Im tired or burned out. As a newcomer its on me to clarify, so Ill tweak my original statement:
When I say its a waste of time, I mean that its one of their goals to waste *our* time by catching us unaware and unprepared. There are ways to turn the tables if you decide to debate them, but make sure to prepare at least as much as they have. Do not let them control the narrative. Were facing a massively distributed and concerted propaganda effort intended to demoralize, weaken our resolve, and redirect us away from healthy and helpful ways of thinking. We cant afford to let them!

"New Yorks attorney general, Eric Schneiderman, claimed vindication and victory for those swindled by the course.
Donald Trump fought us every step of the way, filing baseless charges and fruitless appeals and refusing to settle for even modest amounts of compensation for the victims of his phony university, Schneiderman said in a statement. Today, that all changes. Todays $25m settlement agreement is a stunning reversal by Donald Trump and a major victory for the over 6,000 victims of his fraudulent university."

(109,009 posts)Each child gets a different set of genes, even with full siblings.
My brother's test showed he had 8% Scandinavian ancestry, and I had none. And we have lots of other differences, for example, his whole Y chromosome.
But the test recognized us as full siblings, with an "extremely high" likelihood.

(652 posts)In my family, my grandmother was half Native American.
So imagine my surprise when I had no NA genes on my DNA test. I am 99.97% Irish and northern European, and .03% Jewish.
I called my cousin to report this development. Need I say that no one in the family believed me? And that I don't know much about genetics and neither do my relatives? The family decided that either the test was wrong, or that I am the daughter of the proverbial milkman.
I called my mom to ask about the milkman thing, thinking it was funny. She didn't take it that way until she realized that of course, I was joking.
The rest of my family still thinks we (the cousins) are 1/8 Native American. And why? Because it's been the story of our history for all of our lives and all of the lives of my aunts, uncles, and grandparents.
Heck, when I was starting college, my mother checked to see if I was NA enough to get some sort of grant or scholarship. I wasn't, so the subject was dropped.
Anyway, until a couple of years ago, I was thrilled that I was 1/8 Native American. As was the case with my relatives, I was proud of that. I liked it. It stirred my imagination. It made me interested in NA history and the current conditions of their lives.
I excited to go to a pow-wow, at which 98% of the people there were either Black or Caucasian, most claiming NA heritage. I expected to see a lot of identifiable Native Americans, and actually saw exactly two.
The rest of us were like Elizabeth Warren -- had the family history of our heritage, but no proof and ample belief that it was true. This occurred prior to DNA testing being available. And I'm still not sure that those places that do the testing, like 23andme, ferret out NA genes anyway.
