Democrat Paul Sadler says don’t count him out in Texas Senate race

http://www.dallasnews.com/news/politics/headlines/20120806-democrat-paul-sadler-says-dont-count-him-out-in-texas-senate-race.ece

Democrat Paul Sadler woke up the morning after the Senate runoff last week and learned he’d apparently lost a race that hasn’t even started.

Pundits and media outlets across Texas and the U.S. all but declared Ted Cruz the next Lone Star State senator after the tea party favorite crushed his heavyweight rival, David Dewhurst, in the GOP contest.

And Sadler, a lawyer and former East Texas state representative, asked with frustration: What happened to the November election that pits him against Cruz?

“It was as if we didn’t exist,” said Sadler, who beat retired educator Grady Yarbrough in the Democratic runoff.

It’s not that Sadler denies he’s the underdog, a notion underscored by harsh political realities. A Democrat hasn’t won statewide office in Texas since 1994 and he’s at a massive financial disadvantage against Cruz, a national conservative darling.

Sadler said he simply wants the chance to present his case to voters.

'But Sadler said interest is picking up, including among moderate Republicans and independents. He’s asking 1 million Texans to donate $10 each to his campaign so he can put up a fair fight.

Texas Democratic Party spokeswoman Rebecca Acuña echoed that, saying Sadler could win because Republicans “have officially gone off the deep end with this nominee.”'

Who made noise, where?

and as we've just GOT to return the House to majority Dem, I spend a fair amount of time, and some money, doing this stuff.

this at an appreciation dinner for Democratic poll workers in our Texas county. Local papers did the same as the national ones did. It was as if Democrats didn't even exist. But about 20 people made calls to editors and TV newsrooms and voila! we were mentioned - a bit late but still before the run-off election. The omissions amount to a form of dismissal and is making a lot of us angry but we can do little more than constantly harangue the media each time they do this that there IS another party in the state.
