Do we have a back up plan for DU during the elections?

I remember election day in 2016 when, suddenly, hackers took control of DU and shut it down. One second I was reading content and the next second a scary image came on the screen and the site was down. I don't recall how long it took to get back online, I'm thinking it was the better part of a week.

I expect the same attacks will happen during the midterms.

Is there a strategy in place for moving the discussion around if hackers crash DU? Can we meet on FB for instructions to a secondary site? What is the plan?

2. I vaguely recall a website that hosted free bootlegged movies.

It was regularly taken down for copyright infringement, but a duplicate site would pop up somewhere else immediately. The URL would become websitename.au, then websitename.nz, then website name.fr.

I don't recall how they redirected people.

I've wondered if that could be set up here. The FB page could tell people the new URL.

I'm not a coder, so maybe someone is thinking of a plan.

I just hit it and now showing The Rock in "Skyscraper" - which just opened in theaters!

Don't you just love the internet?

Now, DU has a big Twitter account now, and FB, so if it happens again we can keep up a bit better.

It was not random. Taking down DU was one small part of the plan to steal the election.

9. Why wouldn't DU Facebook be the secondary site?

Lol remembering. Thinking it'd be a mixed forum, the last time I did go briefly check out Discussionist. It's a DU satellite set up as a mixed companion forum, but it seems to get most of its energy from hostile reaction to DU. DU is its reason to exist. There was just way too much malice, bad society, and I left quick.

Btw, as it happens, a short time ago I dropped by for the first time in nearly a year and noticed some truthful OPs being posted and left for conservative DIers to swarm in and deny. Boy, is there some major denial. These little exercises seemed to be almost the only truth posted there.

This is a very bad era to be naturally conservative in. I can't exactly feel sorry for people who behave this way, but clearly too many really didn't have a chance. These days, those vulnerable to manipulation are like cattle born to be raised and lead to the mental slaughterhouse.

Some're actively looking forward to Russia, or whomever, taking DU down again btw.

to not believe any new news sources. Vetting sources is now paramount. And those who push unvetted new news sources need to be suspected.

They've gone so far beyond hands-off that they're largely absent in handling the site like they have in the past.

Hell, we would have had a DU: Elections forum up and running as the primaries got underway so people could connect through there.

Months and months without responses by them in the Ask section - even regarding billing issues.

I don't expect them to have a plan other than "fuck it" at this point.

indirectly in keeping a website up. So expect the worse,,,,perhaps a facebook page/twitter/instagram as backup alternatives.

no doubt we will see the most forceful attempt in November to shut down our democracy and freedom to vote and makes it all the more critical to work with local democratic committees to be "poll watchers" and have phone numbers for lawyers ready to take action. This will be the worse election we have seen. GOP will be advocating violence at several levels under the guise of "safeguarding" our elections and must be prepared to insure all americans can vote

They now use https and I'm sure they have this covered.
