General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsAs one old timer here to others-with all due respect, do you remember the CLARKIES?
Wesley Clark is going to be hosting a militarist propaganda show on NBC, a subsidiary of the "we paid no taxes" largest Defense Department contractor of all--General Electric.
What a shame, I don't hold the CLARKIES responsible for what General CLARK is doing-it's different from General BOYKIN in some ways yet shameful to this American citizen.

(34,111 posts)I got tickets to hear him speak, met him and gave him the thumbs up from the Clark group here since one of them helped me get the tickets. I never could get behind him, I liked him alright as a person he seemed smart and nice and knowledgeable but there was that military thing that left me cold. I watched and listened to people who I respected as they spoke about him but still, could not go there.
All in all I liked the Clark group, they seemed to be less of a fan club but a bunch of people who thought he might be the answer. Never considered him myself but then I had my guy all picked out and ready and very unlikely to use the military as an answer to all problems at least not as a first choice and never if things could be handled otherwise. Well, that did not go so well either.
*not saying Clark would have used the military as a first choice but still, I was not ready to go there, not at all.
I saw an ad for that show. WTF?

(34,111 posts)LOL to the rest.
I met and became friends with DancingBear, he was a big Clark person for a long time. He is a very good, stand up person IMO. I lost track of him a while ago, wish that was not so.
Others, there were many others who truly had a good case for him and stated it well without all the neener neener crap. They were good people for the most part and not dismissive of the rest of us. At least that was my experience.

(20,583 posts)until the show airs. I thought it was just supposed to be using reality show format to describe military tactics.
I guess I could have been called a "Clarkie." He warned us about the changing world economy and did not sugar-coat the fact that, without some changes, the emerging markets in India and China would leave the US in the dust.
He was not shy about revealing the lies and hypocrisy of the RW. He wanted to go after them.
I would have trusted him to go after Wall Street.
He, more than any other candidate of the day, was against the first use of military power. Most politicians are afraid they would sound weak if they did not bluster on about being aggressive with the military. Clark was the most judicious in his discussions of the use of military power.
Eisenhower once said that he feared the results when presidents who did not really understand how the military works, would hold office, implying that they could be easily bullied by the brass. That had come to pass many times over. Maybe Clark would have been different.
Thank you so much for not holding me responsible for a tv show - I was really worried about that.

And no, I was never a "Clarkie". But I'm not gonna trash someone over nothing.
Theres a difference in being anti-war/anti-Bush doctrine and completely hating the military just for the sake of hating the military. Which side of that equation do you come out on? Because the tone of your OP kind of makes it sound like its the latter of the 2.

(26,083 posts)Last year General CLARK was one of six individuals chosen by the FCC to join the FCC's Technical Advisory Council/TAC-that announcement is revealing as to what Wesley CLARK has been up to-pimping himself in the mercenary world as well as being a strawman in a bank that might be a laundry....check it out for yourselves people. Note how those ACCENTURE ties really bind today.

(59,504 posts)I was impressed when Clark first entered the race, but he stumbled too many times in a short time. In addition, he had no visible record on most of the issues. A number of things caused me to be wary of him, but he then was one of the few Democrats who was a very good surrogate for Kerry. That he is on a reality show is disappointing - he was a very good spokesperson on military/foreign policy and this may diminish that.
After the passage of nearly a decade, I still feel Kerry and Dean were the best. In fact, I think that Kerry would have been the best of his generation - in terms of character, values, experience and his diplomatic skills. It is unusual when any politician goes out of his way to speak of another as decent - and there are many reasons why Deval Patrick in his book is right in calling Kerry "uncommonly decent".
There was a reason that Kerry was demonized by the right since 1971. They saw his eloquence, intelligence, and morality as he spoke out before the SFRC. He could have been a great President.

(68,867 posts)We were quite effective here at DU......but neither the Deniacs nor the Clarkies got their men elected.....
In the end, we lost that election...and Bush won, and fucked us for 4 more years.
Wesley Clark isn't running for anything at this time, and hasn't since 2004.....
Whatever he is doing working for the same company that Rachel Maddows works for
is what it is. Is it shameful, or is that one person's opinion?
Clark got me interested in Politics....that along with Bush being President.
Due to his entrance into the 2004 primary race, I've contributed not only to this site,
but to politics in general...with my money and my time. Multiply me by many,
and in the end, you will realize that Wesley Clark's work for the Democratic party
and to help this nation has been a positive contribution, and not anything else.
And no, there are no saints and perfect folks in this world....and that includes you and me!
Peace!

Very nice man, articulate, I was very impressed by him, but I was a Dean girl...(with yes...a little Edwards thrown in.) I did like what Clark had to say. I'd prefer him in the political arena because I think he has a very good world view, and was somewhat disappointed in this TV show. I am willing to give him a bit of leeway, and hope that the show is a platform for people to understand what our soldiers go through.
