Well, it would take three of them: simply switch parties. Today. Throw the Senate to Dem control. That means no SCOTUS hearings. No tRump agenda moving forward. It means a Congressional check on the Traitor-in-Chief.
John McCain could lead the charge. Get two others out of Collins, Murkowski, Flake and Corker to switch party alliance for the rest of their current term.
It will never happen, of course, but it is an answer to the theres nothing I can do hand wringing well be seeing from these fucking TRAITOR ENABLERS going forward.
Desperate times demand dramatic action. Better a traitor to your party than a traitor to the country.

(24,396 posts)Just stop being an R. Caucus with the Ds for a few months.
Of course, becoming a D would be a great FU to Traitor McConnell.

(29,199 posts)today the senate is 51 - 49... except that McCain is unlikely to ever cast another vote...
He is also likely the only patriotic R to actually do what has been suggested (I suggested this a week ago about the KKKavanaugh nomination). But I doubt he will be physically able to make the trip to actually cast the vote.

(24,396 posts)But he could be the one to lead the charge. He switches and then two others join him to give Ds a 51-48 margin in the Senate, factoring in McCain not returning to DC.

(6,709 posts)Currently: 51 R-49 D
w/o McCain: 50 R-49 D
w/1 switch: 49 R-50 D
My kingdom for a horse.

(10,721 posts)And I don't think either Flake or Corker are principled enough to make the switch even if they are retiring.

(6,709 posts)They are disassociating from tRump, not their party.

(6,496 posts)Independents do well in Maine. Our other senator, Angus King, is an independent. I think she'd be able to get re-elected as an independent because people here would reward her for standing up to Trump. Might be a good move for her career. Plus, she gets called a rino all the time. Republicans are so crazy that I can see them not choosing her as a candidate the next time around anyhow.

(6,496 posts)So Mainers can vote their favorite without having to worry about spoilers... Don't have to worry about the asshole Republican the majority hates winning because everyone else is split between the independent and the Democrat. There's never been a better time to be an independent candidate in Maine, at least for U.S. House and U.S. Senate. We still have some work to do so we can use ranked choice voting in the general election for governor and state legislature races, but we can use it in all the primaries. It is an approvement.
