A little good news today....I think we all need it.
The California Polytechnic State University (Cal Poly) rescinded a scholarship to a young wrestler after he was filmed hurling homophobic abuse in a video widely viewed on social media.
Footage of 18-year-old wrestler Bronson Harmon holding a pro-Donald Trump sign, making an obscene gesture and shouting f**k off, faggot! was viewed more than 30,000 times since it was first posted on June 30, the day a Families Belong Together marchprotesting the Trump administration policy of separating migrant children from their parents at the bordertook place in the city of Modesto, California.

(3,479 posts)You're pissed because Cal Poly decided they didn't want to associate with a sniveling bag of shit like you, and you don't like it. They should be forced to put up with your shit, just like ABC should be forced to put up with Roseanne and the NBA should be forced to put up with Donald Sterling, amirite? Sorry asshole, they have rights too. #Murica

(4,238 posts)This fool and his daddy, along with some other guy, first drove past us as we were marching towards City Hall. I heard them yelling something out of their car, but couldn't make out what they were saying. As the rally came to an end, we were walking away and heard some shouts behind us. Apparently, these three assholes were provoking and making derogatory statements to marchers as they were leaving. They came with the intent of causing a disturbance, and now this kid is paying the price.

(15,805 posts)a hater. He's become notorious, lost his scholarship and his educational opportunity, and he's complaining that the school didn't want him doing more of the same while he was a student there. Maybe he should complain to his father about how his terrible parenting skills have ruined his life.

I still feel like my freedom of speech was taken away, and I dont think my scholarship should have been revoked over something like that.
Racist asshole guy doesn't understand what the whole "freedom of speech" thing means. A lot of other people don't either, including a lot of people who aren't racist assholes.
Racist asshole guy can go back out tomorrow, and say the exact same thing. He won't be arrested, or detained by the government. But, he can be fired because his employer doesn't want him working there any more. He can be booted from school, because he's violated their code of conduct.
I've read this a bunch of times here, and other places: "Freedom of speech, doesn't mean freedom from the consequences of your speech". That's just damned true. And, it goes for all of us, and I'm glad it does.

Sure, you can hide your hate behind free speech and everyone else can judge your character for your actions.
Cal Poly did.
You're a violent hate crime waiting to happen.
You're a lawsuit waiting to happen.
Now, fuck off, asshole.
