No wonder Jews are flocking to the GOP:
"It's individuals and their entrepreneurship which have driven America," Romney said. "What America is not a collective where we all work in a Kibbutz or we all in some little entity, instead it's individuals pursuing their dreams and building successful enterprises which employ others and they become inspired as they see what has happened in the place they work and go off and start their own enterprises."
For a lot of American Jews, especially those who've had the chance to visit one themselves, the kibbutz is a special cultural touchstone. Though its origins date from before the Second World War, kibbutzim are a vibrant symbol of the pioneering, selfless spirit that allowed the state of Israel to rise from the ashes of the Holocaust. To attack the institution of the kibbutz is to attack something very close to the heart of many Jews.
Why, it would almost be like criticizing, say, Mormon missions, I would think.

"You people" (peasants), your "little" lives aren't more important than what I've done, which is "building successful enterprises" to destroy your lives.

(40,416 posts)Mitt is astoundingly out of touch. Who in the fuck writes these things for him? Or does he just voluntarily shove his foot in his mouth like that?
I can't believe how inept his campaign is.
Astounding! Absolutely astounding!

Did Romney just write off the kibbutznik vote?
By Daniel Treiman · August 7, 2012
Mitt Romney may have positive feelings for Israels health care system, but he apparently does not think that America has much to learn from Israels collective farms.
At a Chicago fundraiser, the Republican candidate reportedly said:
Its individuals and their entrepreneurship which have driven America. What America is not a collective where we all work in a Kibbutz or we all in some little entity, instead its individuals pursuing their dreams and building successful enterprises which employ others and they become inspired as they see what has happened in the place they work and go off and start their own enterprises.
Buzzfeed characterized this remark as follows: Romney took a shot at the Israeli Kibbutz movement, a product of the early socialist zionist movement and integral to the story of the founding of the State of Israel.
But Im not sure that he was knocking kibbutzim, so much as he was delineating his clear disagreement with those who argue that America is a giant Hebrew-speaking communal farm.
