McConnell Issues Supreme Court Warning
July 20, 2018 at 6:52 am EDT By Taegan Goddard

Politico: “Mitch McConnell has a warning for Democrats demanding copious documents on Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh: Be careful what you wish for. The Senate majority leader privately told senior Republicans on Wednesday that if Democrats keep pushing for access to upwards of a million pages in records from President Donald Trump’s high court pick, he’s prepared to let Kavanaugh’s confirmation vote slip until just before November’s midterm elections, according to multiple sources.

“Delaying the vote past September would serve a dual purpose for McConnell, keeping vulnerable red-state Democrats off the campaign trail while potentially forcing anti-Kavanaugh liberals to swallow a demoralizing defeat just ahead of the midterms. Senators said McConnell believes the Democratic base will be ‘deflated’ if they raise hopes of defeating Kavanaugh only to lose just days before the election.

or he may be wrong in that a defeat might just energize Democratic voters to take control of the Senate.

It will be interesting to see.

Everything you Republicans do will only help Democratic candidates this November.

By the way, Mitch, you're an ass.

As for his argument that it would cause Democrats to lose valuable campaign time in red states, I would argue that it would also cause congressional republicans to also lose campaign time dealing with it

What it also seems to ignore that it should not stop surrogates from campaigning on a candidates behalf, and sometimes those can even be more effectively

It would keep him off the campaign trail, too. If he's desperate enough to hold his seat, delaying the SC vote right up until the mid-terms could mean McConnell won't be able to count on his "yea" vote.

Given the aggressive cancer he has, no one knows how much longer McCain might last either.

Presumably Collins is running for re-election in Maine and now is when she'll start that campaign. AFAIK, she has a Dem opponent who will gladly beat her over the head with it for the next 2 years if she votes to confirm.

Yesterday, Tim Scott, of all people, sunk a federal judge nominee. McConnell can't know when or from whom he'll lose that crucial vote.

I had to re-edit when it replaced something in my keyboard buffer with what I had typed.

Sorry to rant about something out of context of this thread, but wanted to clarify the disjointed comment I had made, because it replaced what I typed out of the keyboard buffer.

I need to find the option to remove this so-called feature.

Back to your point, I agree with your assessment. McConnell can make all the threats he wants, it is still the responsibility of Congress, and in our case for Democrats to do their job and determine the qualifications of a SC nominee, and if that means looking at his past record, so be it

His sole purpose over the last 10 years has been to screw the majority of Americans front, back and sideways. His mind is always thinking of ways to corrupt the will of the majority of the people, to ram through his extreme right wing agenda. He hasn’t condemned Trump, which indicates he doesn’t care about the Constitution or the rule of law, only power. He’s an ugly man from the inside out.
