Democratic lawmaker calls for 'new generation' of leadership in party

By Sophie Tatum at CNN

https://www.cnn.com/2018/07/22/politics/seth-moulton-democratic-party-leadership/index.html

"SNIP......

This is bigger than one person, what we need is a new generation of leadership to be honest about the problems that we face," Rep. Seth Moulton said in an interview on CNN's "State of the Union" on Sunday.

When specifically asked about the direction of the Democratic Party on proposals like abolishing US Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Moulton said that it is important for the party to have "a diversity of views" and to be careful about becoming "narrower."

"The reality is if we're going to be a majority party, if we're actually going to win in November, we've got to have a diversity of views and I think that's one of the things that's made our party strong in the past," Moulton told Tapper. "But if we become narrower, if we become more divided, then you know what? We can do that as Democrats, but we're just not going to win."

.....

"I think that the stakes are so high in November, the stakes are so high to put a check on this President, to put a check on the administration to restore some balance in Washington, that we've got to make sure that we have a broad base," he said.

.......SNIP"

How do "economic progs" differ from progressive socialists, or progressive democrats, or democratic socialists or, just plain old Progressives, or, plain old Socialists or,..have they all been fractured off in a trendy new label, representing the populist message they use to claim superiority over the others with?

Are there any economic socialists ?
Are their racial Progressives, racial socialists, progressives for women or Socialists for women?
Are their foreign policy progressives or foreign policy socialists yet? Or am I getting ahead of myself in anticipation that maybe there will emerge a socialist progerssive group Just For Me!!

I tell ya, its pretty hard to take them all serious since they muddy the water when it comes to identity.

THIS IS WHY I AM STICKING WITH MY GOOD OLD SOLID DEMOCRATIC PARTY THAT REPRESENTS ALL THE SPECIFIC TRENDY FEATURES BEING GIVING US, RATHER THAN A BUNCH OF GROUPS LIKE A DINNER BUFFET.

WTF.
Y'all can splinter off how you like.

THANK YOU DEMOCRATIC PARTY.
At least I will always know that you have consistantly stood for the best of all people.

I'll stand under the Democratic Big Tent & y'all can huddle under your trendy labelled umbellas.

But, as I noted in another of these threads, Florida Democrats are working hard to turn the state Blue. We don't have time for this divisive crap.

party politics seem to have no idea about the different caucus' in the Party. They seem to just stand around saying what are you going to do for me rather than look into the tent itself by reading policy papers and joining their local.

don’t do that by having narrow views for every district. Diversity of views is important.

Your focus is on Bernie, let’s be honest. Not “economic progressives”.

...."diversity of views"? If that means becoming so diluted that our actual message and beliefs get lost in a haze of gauzy, feel good sound bites that mean nothing and please nobody except overpaid consultants, strategists, and the David Brooks and Fred Hiatt's of the world......then I'd say we've already been trying that to diminishing returns for quite some time now.

We have to realize that there are a lot of former republicans who right now have no rational choice but to vote with us or sit at home. Those people largely chose to be independents, which means they get frozen out of some of our primaries, but they will loom large in November. Our candidates over performing in heavily red districts and actually winning a lot of them should tell people that a lot of former republicans see our candidates that have a locally crafted message as the only logical choice, to kick those people in their privates is insane, they are the only way that we can win in their districts, there are not plenty of democratic socialists in those places ready to bust loose - so we get a Connor Lamb and may get a kid somewhat like him winning as a democrat in Ohio within three weeks.

here. Too abstract and we risk the chance to convert them. Like you said, the locally crafted message makes more sense for each region/district. Agreed that there are many who want stability and sanity, and the Democrats are being looked at.

reason for Justice Democrats to be primarying incumbent Democrats. It is completely relevant and it is here and now, lol. If you don’t support what they do, that is where the one-size-fits-all comes from.

Small differences in ideology, real or imagined, don't matter, only defeating the other party.
