Mallard Filmore is back to his old dickish self today

Yesterday Bruce Tinsley, the pen behind conservative comic Mallard Filmore, kicked Donald Trump in the face.

The Trump cartoon is posted here:

Today he's back to his natural offensive nature. It must be killing him that he can't use his strip to speak his racist mind:

That didn't last long.

Because it was acceptable (at least in some circles) to use the n-word 150 years ago that it should be okay to use it today when discussing contemporary issues?

I can't remember which (school I think) are taking Huck Finn out of circulation because of the usage of the word.

Except to add that Tinsley is lamenting the fact that he can't use that word and get away with it. It begs the question "why would you want to?".

Huck Finn has been on the most banned book list quite often lately. I think some classics should be exempt from today's standards. Huck Finn is one of them.

But when I see Tinsley complaining like this, what I hear is "if they call each other that, why can't I?" I feel he's just trying to get his foot in the door to use it repeatedly.

I guess it's true that context is everything, but tell that to estranged CEO Papa John Schnatter who used the word in a racial awareness presentation.

Including the likes of Trump. They love law enforcement and the judicial system until it comes after them for their transgressions (which they probably have been getting away with for years).

Mallard Fillmore exists to "balance" Doonsbury (and, in times past, Bloom County and Boondocks).

Of course, in contrast to those threee, it's far more ham-handed, preachier, and never pokes fun at itself.

And every time they think they're funny, their "jokes" come off as mean spirited and cruel. Mallard Fillmore is proof of this.
