Update from The Washington Post
The American Immigration Lawyers Association said Wednesday that a migrant toddler died shortly after being released from an U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement detention center in Dilley, Tex.
AILA has learned that a toddler died soon after release from the Dilley South Texas Family Residential Center, Gregory Z. Chen, director of government relations for the 15,000-member association, said in a statement. We do not have information on the cause of death or information that confirms a connection between medical treatment at STFRC and this death.
Chen did not name the child or say when the alleged death occurred, and The Washington Post was unable to independently verify the death.
ICE said Wednesday that it could not investigate the situation without the childs name or other information. However the agency made clear that no child died while in its care.

The media is contacting the person in the last tweet via replies. Sadly, I suspect this is a valid report.
The poor little angel.

(89,251 posts)if true.
i did a search and so far these tweets are the only one and other sources are using just these tweets for their story.

(19,565 posts)If you look at the replies in the last tweet she's being contacted by The Guardian, Washington Post, BBC, etc. There will be reports with more details once they get their stories written.
I've been following her tweets on this and only now mentioned it since the media has picked up on her. She's an attorney from Houston, Texas.

(89,251 posts)confirm this .
this is one of those times i hope it is fake.

(19,565 posts)That's what I've been hoping for, but it's looking more like she may be correct. She's a pretty passionate immigration attorney and wouldn't make something like this up.

(89,251 posts)even in cases of "natural causes" just because the environment is already such that would make it worse for anyone.
and to make it worse the child's grandmother already lives in the US yet they are held in a fucking detention center ?

(19,565 posts)I didn't share this anyplace until it seems like it was legitimate. After that I think I just needed to talk about it with others.
I'm hung up on the fact her grandmother was in NJ and the child was in that shithole. I can't find anyway to excuse keeping a child someplace like that (this is the facility accused of drugging children I think) when there was a family option here in the US!
JI7
(89,251 posts)they aren't there because they don't have other options.
and the whole thing of not allowing people to go in and look. i'm not talking about opening it up for everyone. but to keep US Senators and other public officials out ????
that was suspicious from the start.
the whole point of it is to be cruel. it's to inflict pain and suffering.

(19,565 posts)They've made these children into criminals and their suffering is a way to hurt their parents for fleeing their desperate lives and coming here looking for hope. If suffering is what their goal is, they've just inflicted the most horrific form possible in this case.
There needs to be a very real reckoning for every last person responsible for this. Not political blowback, but real legal accountability.

(13,524 posts)Whats sad is, I am not in the least shocked to hear this, and wouldnt be surprised if this happens again. And again. Some ASSHOLE at the Senate hearing today said these detention centers are like summer camp. What the fuck, people.
Thanks, cat

(19,565 posts)She told me her DM's were blowing up after her first tweet. I guess she couldn't keep up and reporters started hitting her up in her feed. When I saw that I realized her voice was about to become much stronger in this fight.

(6,139 posts)after seeing reports of kids being abused by the guards, drugged against their will, malnurished, etc. If anything I would be surprised if there is only one such case. Hopefully, Avenatti can get on this case and make it #1 news worldwide and shift the entire news cycle back to child kidnapping cases where it belongs. I beleive RAICES raised lots of money for legal defence and can do more. In fact, if this story breaks in, many more people will donate to the cause. We must have every single child represented by an experienced attorney and have -
a massive number of well prepared criminal cases lauched against all individuals involved in these kidnapping, child traffiking and child abuse cases. All the way to Nielsen who must serve many years in prison for this as an executive of massive child trafficking operation.
IMO, it is extremely important to go after individuals not simply government. Nurnberg trials showed the importance of it. If not, history will keep repeating itself.

(13,524 posts)know, are black holes into which children - disappear. Im actually surprised that anyone even contacted the childs grandmother in the first place to tell her about her grandbaby.
At any rate, yes, tons of legitimate news outlets are trying to make contact with Ms. Yegani:
