3. My take on the divide

I can only speak to my observations here in a small town in North Carolina, it seems to me that the people who are Trump fans are the country people who do not have cable, or satellite TV, they do get local programs but more importantly the get FOX. I think they are fed a steady diet of FOX TV. It is also shown on local McDonalds and fast food chains, when I once asked for the channel to be changed I was told by an employee that they were not allowed to change the channel.

they (and their little corner of the universe) are finally able to express their "pride" at what was installed in the WH, someone who is just like them (although not financially). Within the thought-process of those who look like them, dress like them, talk like them, act like them, and think like them, they have finally "made it" through the election of Drumpf, and their extremist behavior is being normalized.

I.e., they represent a small chunk of the U.S. population who live and operate outside of modern societal "norms". But after having been suppressed for so long yet able to get someone into the highest office of the land who ALSO "bucks" societal norms like them, they feel they can now celebrate their ascendancy via an orgy of hate and fury against those who "made the rules" that they openly defy.

But this is the same kind of crowd-subversion (on a smaller scale) that you saw at those rallies.

Luckily this only seems to work in specific locations with an invited crowd who are already fans and already willing to pump the Trumpster up the way he likes and chant for him. In any other situation with intelligent people, his speeches go over like a lead balloon.
