https://www.rawstory.com/2018/08/president-doesnt-give-damn-msnbc-panel-says-trump-wants-gop-lose-2018-can-win-2020/He then went on to say that Trump wants Democrats to take back the House because he cannot afford to run in 2020 with the unpopular Republican Congress hanging around his neck.
He needs a foil, and what better foil than House Democrats? he asked.
Former RNC Chairman Michael Steele agreed with Israels analysis and said that Trump was essentially throwing his own party under the bus to make life easier for his reelection campaign in two years.
The president doesnt really give a damn about this legislative process, he said. The better foil for him, coming out of 2018, is to spend the next 18 months haranguing against Nancy Pelosi.
That makes too much sense.
1. Trump has no compunctions about firing people until he gets his will. If he believes he has to get rid of Republicans in Congress to win his reelection in 2020, he would do it.
2. Trump is obsessed with old women. He has basically begged Hillary Clinton and Elizabeth Warren to run against him in 2020. Holding non-stop campaign-rallies from November 2018 to November 2020 against Nancy Pelosi is a dream come true for him.
3. Trump is arrogant enough to believe that he's such a good negotiator that he can get a Democratic Congress to do his bidding.

(2,166 posts)if dems take Congress, then doesn't he lose control and they can impeach?

(81,861 posts)So he will sign pretty much anything congress sends him. He might be better off in that sense. The chances of him being impeached AND removed are still not high.

(81,861 posts)He knows the economy is going to tank. He wants to blame Democrats for it, so why not get someone else in power to blame?

(10,053 posts)But if he is wrong and Pelosi isn't chosen as speaker and the new person doesn't quite serve as well as red meat for his base, then his plan backfires "bigly".

(56,828 posts)so, it's possible as Nance has been pretty accurate
What I was thinking is that if Russia is hacking voting machines, they could do so on behalf of Democrats and make it so unrealistic that the results get questioned by Devin Nunes and/or Mitch McConnell and the Russians "mistakenly" leave footprints behind indicating the machines were hacked.
Supreme Court throws out the results and Trump gets to claim the Russians really were colluding with Democrats. Republican base gets fired up after being down following the election.

(15,805 posts)That's say that's the plan. OK, Trump gets reelected and then he's facing a Democratic controlled House that could start impeachment proceedings, even if they fail to take the Senate, just to publicly expose all of Trump criminal activities. The Dems block all his legislation and open a smorgasbord investigations with crates of subpoenas calling in everything Trump and the GOP has been involved with. Trump is an idiot, but he's not stupid enough to deliberately stuff his fat ass into a meat grinder.
If the Dems get a lucky break and they take both chambers, Trump is toast an he knows what awaits him. Again, another no win situation for him.
