Ellis seems bound and determined to not allow prosecution to argue their case.

Will he be as difficult with Manafort’s lawyers?

WAPO summary of prosecution

“President Trump’s former campaign chairman Paul Manafort went on trial Tuesday in federal court in Alexandria, Va., where prosecutors charged that his personal fortune was propped up by years of lies to tax authorities and banks.

The first trial to arise out of the investigation run by special counsel Robert S. Mueller III got off to a fast start Tuesday, as a six-man, six-woman jury was picked — and opening statements delivered — in less than a day. . . .

Manafort faces 18 charges of financial fraud, as prosecutors say he failed to pay taxes on some of the millions of dollars he made working as a strategist for a political party in Ukraine, and then lied to banks to get loans when those payments stopped”

Really seems like Ellis is bound and determined to undermine the prosecution so far.

The prosecution is shredding the notion that Gates controlled Manafort's money. The witnesses illustrate how Manafort micro managed his own funds and spending.

Manifort acting like he was paying a bill but maybe funneling the money to himself?

From the page: "Prosecutors have yet to explain the meaning of these false invoices to jurors."

Also, fyi, these tweeters are posting from the trial:

Here's the govt's witness list: (link: https://assets.documentcloud.
org/documents/4637747/7-27-18-US-Manafort-EDVA-Witness-List.pdf) assets.documentcloud.org/documents/4637…

It has 35 names, but there's no guarantee we'll hear from
all of them. New filing today from the govt says they intend to
have at least one FBI forensic accountant read Manafort emails in court
