(17,444 posts)Attorneys say migrant child died after release from ICE family detention facility
by Maria Sacchetti August 1 at 2:34 PM Email the author
The American Immigration Lawyers Association said Wednesday that a migrant toddler died soon after being released from an U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement detention center in Dilley, Texas.
Gregory Z. Chen, director of government relations for the 15,000-member national association, said he did not know the cause of death or if it was linked to care at the facility. He did not say when the death occurred or provide the childs name.
ICE said Wednesday that it was unable to investigate the alleged death without the childs name or other information. However the agency made clear that no child died while in their care.
Reports that a child died in ICE custody at Dilley are false, the agency tweeted
The Washington Post was unable to independently verify the death.

(12,154 posts)and they didn't want to be held responsible if she died. That's my guess.
I wonder who she was released to, since the article said ICE didn't know her name.
Bastards.

(9,527 posts)If the name of the kid wasn't given to the reporter who then went to ICE, the reporter basically asked "I heard a kid who was at one point in your custody died. I don't know her name, but what can you tell me?" There isn't enough information to answer the question. With a specific kid in custody being released, they would know the name (in theory the administration is really incompetent). But unnamed kid from a third hand source isn't enough to go on.
