From The Hill..
Why is President Trump escalating his attacks against special counsel counsel Robert Mueller, Attorney General Jeff Sessions, the Department of Justice, the FBI and the free press to a fever pitch in recent days?
The reason is that the odds are very high that Mueller will offer a declarative public statement before the midterm elections, and very likely before Labor Day, that the president is guilty of obstruction of justice.
The Mueller declaration of obstruction of justice could be issued in the form of a letter to Congress and may or may not ultimately be issued in the form of an indictment if he believes that the Trump situation creates extraordinary circumstances that warrant his seeking approval for a formal indictment.

Sounds right to me. The question is what will the Republicans in congress do.

(18,634 posts)And no matter how rock solid the evidence is his base will reject it and believe him.
Then any Republican who acts against Trump will lose their seat in Congress, guaranteed.
No I don't think it's possible for evidence to convict Trump in the eyes of his cult worshippers and therefore no Republican lawmakers either.

(31,261 posts)Or even what republicans in Congress do. If the information from Mueller is compelling, it hurts Trump and republicans with democratic voters and independent voters. The percentages in polls from independent voters are starting to near those of democrats, if information from Mueller push those numbers to equal, republicans are in for an electoral bloodbath.
The situation will be similar to 2006. In 2005, after Bush was reelected, republicans pushed really hard on abortion restrictions and the Terry Sciavo life suport debate down in Florida. Independents began to mirror democrats in polls and in 2006, republicans were hammered at the polls.

Not a chance.

(56,582 posts)That's just reality. If there's no point building an impeachment case he won't do that.

(8,678 posts)There is simply too much at stake here. There are already signs of Russian interference in the midterms. I dont think he can wait until after the elections.. it might be too late.

(31,261 posts)The stakes are way too high and I think Mueller and Rosenstein realize that. If republicans take the midterms, we have no country left. My guess is something comes out in mid to late September.

(27,814 posts)Mueller is a meticulous, by-the-book investigator and his report will be thorough and fulsome regardless of who its recipients will be.
He's not the type who, after all of this effort and hard work, will do a half-assed job of it under any circumstances - nor would he even consider altering or abridging one word of his final report.
I've worked with lawyers like Mueller - they do what they do, and they never change their own high standards of perfection and completeness.
I guarantee you that if someone told Mueller that not a single person was ever going to see his final work product, he'd still produce the same report as he would if a million people were going to see it.
That may not be the reality where others are concerned - but for men like Mueller, you do something right or you don't sign-on to do it in the first place.

His number is almost up , and republicans are scared to death , and ready to turn on him soon. He's getting much worse, and more unstable, and it will become clear to them he cannot stay in office anymore. Many in Congress I think will be in deep trouble for their russian and putin ties, and hiding money they received from him.

(15,286 posts)Honestly, I expect there will be indictments of Americans who conspired with Russia/Wikileaks to throw the election to Trump in 2016 before Labor Day, too.

(5,442 posts)In the past, the incapacity of presidents--FDR and Wilson come to mind--was hidden from the public. In this case, the incapacity is mental and is getting alarmingly worse with the entire world to witness. For someone so totally absorbed, he has no real self-awareness. He will lose the support of his rabid followers, and he will do it to himself.

(58,724 posts)Here's what he wrote in June of 2016:
Hillary Clinton will win by a landslide against Donald Trump. I expect her to win 46 states, and if I am wrong, it is equally likely she will win more than 46 states in November, rather than less.
FBI Director James Comey will announce that he is not recommending a criminal prosecution in the Clinton email case, which will give her a tremendous boost. To understand the full magnitude of Clintons coming victory consider the news over the last week, which is a sneak preview of the future.
After Trump attacked the judge in the case against him about Trump University, falsely saying the judge is a Mexican in terms that even some conservatives and Republicans condemned as racist, virtually every senior Republican across the landscape of the national GOP harshly criticized Trumps attacking the judge.

had it not been for Russian interference among other things.
We all thought, including Trump, that she would win. A perfect storm of events changed all that.

Many of the representatives are politicians without a party. Unless Trump endorses them, the base won't show up. If they accept his endorsement, they have to defend him.

(10,721 posts)While I think there will continue to be indictments, I wouldn't expect any sort of 'report' from Mueller anytime soon. Far less complicated investigations have taken several years to complete.
