Gal Gadot Calls to Break Gender Stereotypes; Supports Boy With Wonder Woman Crown

In true superhero fashion, Wonder Woman star Gal Gadot took to Twitter this morning to show her support of a young fan - a boy who chose to take a Wonder Woman backpack and crown to his first day of school. The actress tweeted her thoughts on the situation after an article surfaced on Romper entitled, "My Son Is Busting Gender Stereotypes, But I'm Nervous For His First Day Of School" that features pictures of a young boy beaming while wearing his new Wonder Woman merchandise.

Katie Alicea's Romper article is simultaneously heartwarming and heartbreaking, detailing her son's desire to partake in activities that are more traditionally feminine and the negativity associated with any such diversion from the standard gender roles. Alicea's concern for her son echoes a much larger societal problem, "I admittedly have some fear for my sweet Isaac. For how the world can treat someone who doesn’t easily fit into stereotypes or who blazes their own path instead of following everyone else". Sometimes it takes a superhero to solve an insurmountable dilemma; enter: Gal Gadot. Known for her strong feminist beliefs, Gadot could not remain silent on the matter.

Gadot's tweet included two of the photos from Alicea's article, and has garnered over 22,000 likes as well as over 3,000 retweets. Fans flocked to her Twitter to show their support for both her and #WonderBoy. Yet, not even an adorable, Wonder Woman loving, young boy can keep internet trolls at bay. Many of the replies to Gadot's tweet had a negative tone, insinuating that the young boy would cause disruption in his classroom or confusion in his own life.

1. Well done, Ms. Gadot

Can't help but think Wonderboy cared more about her attention than he did the kids who may have not taken his choice of backpack well.

3. You know he cared more that she said something than anyone else.

I know I would!

She is also slated to play Hedy Lamarr.

4. Oh, she'll be good in that role

I can practically see her in it. I'm not a Superhero fan in most cases (liked Superman but that's about it) but LOVED Wonder Woman. Seeing it in an outdoor theater in Mykonos didn't hurt.

7. You saw WW in Mykonos?!

Do you want to come to my house and kick me in the grapes directly!?

Personally, I wish they would have put this Wonder Woman in WWII. It would have been sooooooo satisfying to see her kick the shit out of Nazis!

9. Sorry about that

Do we know when the sequel is set? Perhaps we'll get to see her smash the nazis which, yes, would be very satisfying. Check your personal mail on DU, I'll tell you the story of how we came to see it in Mykonos.

2. How many females are wearing Superman and Batman attire?

That isn't considered odd...why should this be?????? Oh, yeah...female inferiority.
Be yourself, kid!

5. Gal Gadot is a class act (and the wee one is a trailblazer who will help other kids).

Also exciting news on the superhero front:

6. And on Supergirl...

‘Supergirl’s’ Nicole Maines on Being TV’s First Trans Superhero and Why Representation Matters

For the first time on television, a transgender character is tasked with saving the world.

“We talked for a long time about adding a trans character to one of the DC shows, and ‘Supergirl’ seemed like the right fit,” executive producer Robert Rovner tells Variety. “Our show is all about representation and inclusion, and we want the show to represent the world we live in.”

After a worldwide search, trans activist Nicole Maines — whose battle to use the bathroom of her choice changed state law in Maine and was featured in the HBO doc “The Trans List” — landed the key role of Nia Nal, aka Dreamer, in the CW series’ upcoming season.

“She was so magnificent in every way, and just happens to be a gorgeous actress,” says co-showrunner Jessica Queller.

8. I hope the school has the staff and outlook to help mitigate any harassment.

The day will come when most accept that gender is a social construct and kids like the one featured here won't faze anyone. In the meantime, kids who are simply being themselves need anti-bullying programs.
