As she could help bring out the black vote in the Flint and Detroit areas which would be crucial in countering the vote in the Repub leaning areas in much of the rest of the state.

She needs to pick a man. Preferably a minority. As someone who I know involved in local ( Grand Rapids) Democratic politics told me, “ a tall, distinguished man with a touch of gray on the sides”. I kinda was hoping it would El-Sayed she would pick but things got a little...nasty there at the end.
But not two women. Michiganders can’t handle that.

I saw him at a debate during his run for Representative for MI-01 in 2016. Likeable, young, has a solid knowledge of the issues and is energetic. Sadly he lost but he faced an uphill battle in a district that went for Trump big time.

Lon Johnson is a former chairperson of the Michigan Democratic Party and has worked for the Democratic National Committee, the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, and Congressman John Dingell's 2002 campaign. His wife Julianna Smoot was a Deputy Manager of Barack Obama's 2012 presidential reelection campaign and had served as White House Social Secretary, Chief of Staff to United States Trade Representative and was the national finance director for Obama's 2008 presidential campaign.
