(6,344 posts)I am not posting this comment to be on her side. I'm just saying, she was a fool for recording at the WH and now sharing it.
I felt sorry for her, for a spit second.
Reality TV Administration, purely disgusting.
Kelly a racist asshole, purely disgusting.
They are all purely disgusting.

(49,381 posts)She thought her devotion bought her a license to pilfer at will. It did not. Now she's pissed because she was kicked to the curb. Omarosa today is the same Omerosa that eagerly accepted the job at the White House in January 2017.

(14,966 posts)If true, a bogus retributive prosecution is the least of her worries. Such a case might be won in court. But a legitimate prosecution based on her own words/documents/data files will be much harder to evade.
She signed up to swim in this cesspool, I'm not going to cry for her when she complains about the smell.

(51,590 posts)her breach of security and it IS a big deal. They couldn't believe that she not only was bold enough to commit such an act but she was stupid enough to make it publicly known. This is a big deal. They said that she will never work in govt again and could be in real legal trouble.

(6,344 posts)with a secret tape recording. I bet she is not going to sleep tonight with all the fall-out.
BigmanPigman
(51,590 posts)She is counting the dollar signs to help herself fall asleep faster. Her eyes were on the big bucks and now she may need that money to hire some decent attorneys to get her out of this self created situation. She sounds like the other rocket scientists that the moron surrounds himself with...too greedy and stupid for words.

Double standards when a white man does the same thing, and not a whimper...Trump has passed on classified information, his son in law too...

(6,324 posts)Taking one in and using it is bigger.
She just, among other things, opened the door for a search warrant to be issued that would allow saatchnof virtually everything she owns including all her online history, email, digital files etc.
You dont take recording devices in a SCIF. And you dont double down on that by using one in a SCIF. And if you do then for the love of god you dont go brag about it.
It wont matter if what she released was classified or not. The possession and use of a recording device in a SCIF is itself a crime, as is the use.
And now that shes admitted to doing that it will be the easiest thing for the government to say to a judge This person has admitted to possessing and using a digital recording device in a SCIF. We need a search warrant to ensure there isnt any classified material she may have in her possession or may have passed to other parties.
Then once they have access to search every minute detail of her life, just wait for the embarrassing leaks and/or the prosecution on totally unrelated things they happen to discover.

(6,324 posts)You can not deflect at all her responsibility for that decision on to him.
She would have been very much aware of what is and is not permissible. It would have been briefed to her as part of the procedure for granting clearance to work in the White House and as part of getting her security clearance at whatever level she did.
You cant take a recording device in a SCIF unless its one that is cleared to handle whatever level of information the SCIF is cleared for and is marked accordingly. Not even one turned off with batteries out. Thats something taken very seriously. You cant record on top of that.
Any way you cut it, she broke the law and just bragged about it to the world.
HipChick
(25,485 posts)Evidently you can...Kelly obviously no processes in place
Lee-Lee
(6,324 posts)People with access to classified materials are expected to follow rules.
You dont get strip searched every time you enter a SCIF.
The times the system fails the most is when people who were entrusted fail to meet their obligations and live up to the standards they agreed to.

(6,324 posts)Navy Submariner takes his cell phone into the Submarine and takes a few selfies at his work station. The equipment in his work space was classified and taking photos there was just as illegal as recording in the situation room is.
The photos were found later on his phone during an unrelated investigation. No indication he ever improperly shared them.
He was prosecuted and convicted.
And Trump recently pardoned him- so thats gonna make it hard for home to claim he is doing any prosecution of her that isnt from a position of retribution.
tammywammy
(26,582 posts)There is inherent trust that people with a security clearance will follow the rules. I could walk into a classified area with a cell phone can record any conversation. We aren't patted down before entering them. But, I like my job so I'm not stupid enough to do that.

I don't know how or why......but she's going to come out on top (or at least not on the bottom).
I'm not worried about her. If she wants to make noise and 'switch' parties, I'm okay with it. I won't buy her book - but another thorn in the orange ones side is okay by me.

(9,067 posts)Maybe revealing that recording was her way of getting the WH to back off...if she really has more! Who knows?
Personally, I hope all the tRumps (and friends) form a circular firing squad in the Oval Office, but she may have a strategy in releasing one small clip that did not reveal any top secret info, but was enough to get attention.

Lee-Lee
(6,324 posts)First, what you seek protection for releasing has to be something that exposes government misconduct. The process of her getting fired doesnt rise to that level.

KELLY is the one who should be worried. He is the one that chose that room to fire her in. WHY? He has an office, it would have been easier there. Did he bring her in there specifically because it was a secured place? I am guessing she, nor the lawyers in the room had security clearence to be there. Kelly LEFT the room, which is a breach of security. Jared just got his security clearance via trump because he couldn't pass a background check. There is no reason to believe Omerosa had one when she was fired in Dec 2017.
Because she had no idea why Kelly was meeting her, or that he was taking her there, without a security clearance she may not have even known the security protocols for the room. But kelly did and he broke them. I believe he brought her to there specifically because he didn't want a record of what he + the lawyers were going to say and do.
With his racist attitude and derision towards Omerosa, why would he even care if she made a scene when she was fired? It would publically humiliate her and feed into his ego.
Lee-Lee
(6,324 posts)Anyone working in a place like the White House will have received extensive briefings on security procedures and what is acceptable and what is not. And there will be records where they sign acknowledging that training.
There is no way she didnt know that recording was prohibited in that space.
Even if Kelly also failed to properly adhere to the security procedures and regulations- and its a pretty big leap to assume that- it doesnt change the elements of what she did one bit.
I would expect that as part of the basic procedures for working there she at a minimum had a Secret clearance, even if it was an interim one while waiting for final adjudication. Even the janitorial staff there has a clearance of some sort. I doubt based on the nature of her work she would have ever been sponsored for a higher level clearance, and a Secret is fairly routine to get.
But she absolutely would have known better.

(2,872 posts)everything she is saying is most likely true.. but she is a flawed messenger, sold herself and now is cashing out.. She's an opportunists, a sociopath with the ego of a freight truck.. nothing she can expose will change anyone's minds that has paid attention the last 3 years..
Trump is a bigot - wow, breaking news..
As far as her safety is concerned... only if she has other tapes.. and is using them as leverage - then, she is in trouble..

(6,324 posts)If this were in a home or private office it would be legal because DC is a single party consent law jurisdiction. Under the laws of single pet consent jurisdictions only one party of a conversation must be aware of recording.
In a two party state everyone being recorded must be aware.
That how people like OKeefe get away with the video they make.
But because it took place in a secure facility any recording is illegal.

(52,208 posts)so it's not illegal per se for a participant in a conversation to record herself even if others in the conversation are unaware.
